Yes tried that.

The temp folder is also empty.

The scan didn't find any problems either. I'll get on to BT.

Cheers, and thanks again for everyones help. If past experience is anything to go by, there is probably considerably more expertise on this forum than there is throughout the entire BT organisation.

Don't hold any hope if you call them. They are mostly reading from scripts and if your problem does not fit that script, which I don't think it does, you will be put on hold for ages when the lady/man in India ask his supervisor. It took me one hour last time. I resolved my problem by jumping ship to another ISP.

What modem/router are you using? for example i have broadband at home. I checked the ISP for line quality issues. YT dropping out and crap buffering. Anyway I went to my Asus router settings ( cos we mostly use wireless verus LAN) and all the default settings had " Internet Browsing" as third priority, not High Priority. So I made a few changes/applied them. My download speed went from 100KBS to 650 kb/s- 1Meg. My YT functionality is 20 times better. My speed test/Ping test went from grade F ( Poor) to B+. So just saying if you have a router this may be your problemSmile

This sounds interesting. I have a BT voyager, if that means anything. I've just gone into my 'Router Manager' and the sort of settings you're describing are either not visible in any of the menus or are inaccessible to the user.

Log into your router through it's IP address. The password is your user password. Check it's settings.

I do that all the time on my router.

Checked my settings and they're fine.

However, I have just spoken to BT and described the problem. They say that my router, although not faulty is sub-standard due to it's age. They've given me a number to call, to get a new one free of charge, and apparently a discount on my bill!

Is that BT Voyager 100 ? That's a modem we phased out two years ago. I actually still have one in my house. It is my cat's favorite plaything. Of course off line, that is.

No it's a 210. It's about 5 years old.

You're not using any ad-blocking software, are you? If I use an ad-blocker on my router-settings page, it hides most of the panels.

Just a thought.  Smile

BT think they can get away with anything in their ads. They're living in the past, and need to be reminded they no longer have the monopoly they once enjoyed.

It's supposed to arrive today. I gave them instructions to leave it with a neighbour as I'll be at work when it arrives, although I expect it will end up at the post office, and I'll have to collect it tomorrow.

The new hub arrived yesterday. I've installed it and it works. I'm pleased to say I remained connected to the internet for the whole evening, and was able to watch endless Iplayer/Youtube clips with NO buffering. There has also been a slight increase in speed when loading a page, but my main gripe had been the loss of connection and the inability to play clips. So, I'm a happy man!

They also sent me an 'Accelerator' which I have to install into my phone socket in the wall. I've yet to do this. I'll do it at the weekend, and do a test to see if my actual download speed increases significantly.

Three cheers and many beers for the progarchives IT helpdesk!
