This is definetely being blown out of proportion. As a person in contact with the CDC, I can say that the statistics are a tad sensationalized. First of all, the only recorded deaths in Mexico were in a hospital. Who knows how many people have contracted the influenza and are fine now that have not even contacted the hospital? Second of all, this will probably end up like any other influenza outbreak. Yes, people will die but it probably isn't something to lose sleep over.

Yes Because the people who went to the hospital are near to death.

About the other question we do not know.Cry

The authorities have said that all the people who works in goverment like me, we stop all activities from 1 to 5 of may.

About your last statement you can say that because you do not live here, i ' very very worried.

By the way, best wishes....

If we're all meant to die, nothing can stop it, so I just don't worry about things like this. So many people choose to live their lives in fear based on what they see on the news, but you know what? I can't do that. I have way too many other thyings in life to worry about.

I'm not saying this to be cruel or heartless; I'm saying it because it's true. We can all either go about our lives anbd try to live them as fully as possible despite the horrible events that happen, or we could all cowar in fear and never do anything. I do feel for each and every family touched by this epidemic, I honestly do. Cry

It is not this outbreak to worry about which will likely slow down in the coming weeks.  It is the "boomerang effect" to be afraid of, where the virus can change again and come back with a huge vengeance many months later.  This is the effect that killed millions of people in 1918.

Don't panic yet.  If it comes back next fall with a larger kill-rate, then look the hell out.

I think we may have more to fear from the outbreak of panics from things, but I would not presume to judge folks in Mexico City who are having first hand experience...

Except that there is almost certain to be a vaccine for this strain of H1N1 by then. It may not have full efficacy, but the chance of a high kill-rate later in the game is less. It's with a virulent, contagious virus coming in contact with a whole population of naive immune systems.

The different virulence in different countries really makes one wonder if there is a different rate of regular flu-shots in the population and if that is having any effect.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

It's hard to believe that Mexico is nearly 3rd world status. I hope things get better there soon!

This is hitting rather early in the flu season though.  As someone who works in the medical field, what do you think about it's potential coming on this early?  I appreciate it may just be pure speculation....

Interesting.  I thought the flu-shots out there now had no effect against this new swine flu?

This was just fundamentalist dogma. "Ah hah, look at what the infidels unclean meat causes. We'll show them how to deal with this!" Pure religious/political posturing.

I'm truly sorry for anyone who has been affected by this outbreak, but the panic is disproportionate to the danger. 95% of people who will get this only have to fear nausea and vomiting. Health care is just teensy weensy bit better than 1917, so the mass hysterria and 24/7 media coverage needs to stop.

But you know as well as I that the governments and media stations of this world want to constantly keep us all under control via fear tactics and sensationalization of outbreaks like this. It's either viruses, natural disastors or temperature records being set. They talk about all this stuff happening ofor the very first time as if it's something that shouldn't be happening, and therefore we should be in hystarics over it.
