here's one I like now I'm in a mean mood again: "There's kerosene around, there's something to do." - Big Black. I can't think of a better description of small-town boredom than exists in that small line.

Spock's Beard lyrics are usually one step above abysmal, but I liked:

"And Newsweek's featured everyone by now..."

And

"And you're never satisfied / Your wants just change"

Kevin Gilbert's lyrics are among the best - the entire song "Goodness Gracious" is perfect.

I've always gotten chills by these lines, since I first heard them:

"Poured forth gracefully, this ctheric tincture
Lifts winter's coat-of-arms with coaxing aromas and electricity.
Used with vigilance, a Pitcher of Summer stirs a memory into swooning,
And bravely, the flowers of the past will stretch their limbs into the sky
While snow falls! (quietly all around.)"

excuse me, but what does "ctheric" mean? or do you mean "etheric"? anyway, this kind of lyrics may appeal to some; to me it is "schwülstig" (that German word expresses it better than "turgid" or "overblown")

The reason I think I like it so much is because of how it's derlivered...

as for "ctheric" I have no clue what it means...but that is the printed lyrics...I believe it may something to do with oil or oil contamination or contamination in general...I love these lines because of how they are delivered, and also these last few lines make more lyrical sense in context of the whole song...listen to it here (myspace)

I'm also usually not a fan of overblown lyrics, this being one exception, as I think overblown lyricism really fits in with the style of this band.

it is probably "etheric" then; it would fit into the context. I flipped through some of our dictionaries (we have a whole collection of them here, since Friede used to work as a translator) and couldn't find "ctheric" anywhere

Possibly so; is it pronounced "eth - ear- ic" ? because it sounds like he says that in the song itself. or "set- ear- ic" ...can't be sure. The lyrics off of the Kayo Dot website say "ctheric", but I can't be sure...what does "etheric" mean?
