But a majority of the music for the piece had been written as early as the late 1960's when Banks was still at Charterhouse School - precocious? Discuss!
But you have to consider with both bands on the same label in the UK (Charisma) and didn't they tour together in one or more Charisma Package Roadshows, that there might have been some cross-fertilisation????

That's right - I believe the full package was Genesis, VDGG and Lindisfarne....

Hmm - are Lindisfarne prog?

That's accruate, but the idea was not to link them together and make a suite out of it, with lyrics that narrate a whole story all throughout the sequence of those composed parts. Gabriel was so amazed about what he heard in 'A Plague...', that he suggested Genesis do something like that. Of course, they had so much material already written, that it was only natural that they would use some of it.

Discuss? Words by Hammill and Gabriel themselves, on different interviews. Even though Tony Banks doesn't explicitly mention the 'Plague'/'Supper' thing, he acknowledges VdGG's influence on Genesis' sound in the sleeve notes whe wrote for the VdGG box.

Regards.

 are Lindisfarne prog?

Some of the earlier stuff could be filed under Folk-Prog(the harmony singing is much more elaborated than in traditional folksong) Lady Eleanor is one of my favourite songs.
