yeah that was mother beautiful HT. Post of the tournament so far!
I was inclined to vote for Rush but decided to vote Le Orme. I really do love early Rush but Le Orme did, as others have noted, had such a classic string of albums that not even Rush matched. If only I had waited.. Steve's brilliant post would have likely been enough to sway me. |

Alright guys. This is ridiculous. Rush has 4 albums ranked in PA's top 40. Le Orme has one album in the top 100. There really cannot be more proggers who prefer Le Orme over Rush.

come on. WE all know the prog mantra. It applies fully within prog as well as outside. Popularity does not equal quality. I really don't have a dog in this fight. I really like Le Orme, but are far down the list of Italian favorites of mine. However I really.. REALLY like Rush. Early Rush that is. But it is refreshing to see people judge simply on the music rather than the name of the band. On that. Rush rocked.... Le Orme created a string of timeless prog classics. It could have been a nightmare draw not for Le Orme but one for Rush and so far has proved to be one. Right from the start of this tournament when Le Orme went up 10-0 you knew or strongly suspected this tournament could be a lot of fun. This forum is different Ken from the old glory days when the popular groups had large and vocal fanclubs. Perhaps many are simply judging based on the music (then again.. how to explain Camel ) over the name. The winner really doesn't matter I suppose.. what counts is the drama. Who really is going to win this. I (we) couldn't have asked for more. It makes me happy I junked the original idea of seeding everone and going with random draws outside of the top 8 (IMO of couse). I do have to say, as soon as I have gotten home the last two days.. the first thing I have checked is the vote total here. |

I am surprised to see so many Le Orme fans, but I suppose there are those without preference who simply want to see the underdog win and voted that way. Honestly Scott, I figured Rush would have overtaken Le Orme by now. However if one was simply to judge the groups by the body of work, forget the album lists here, Le Orme had as good if not better run of prog material than Rush did. Rush really didn't hit the big time until they left prog behind. I enjoy the HELL out of their prog material, and love the group FOR it, but I would really never consider it quality. More fun than anything to hear the chesey ass lyrics, geek prog personified, and really killer heavy prog but Le Orme, like many of the Italians in addition to the bite gave a sense of taste and refinement toallly missing from early Rush. btw. Some clappies. About time someone from the Rush camp stepped up and took offense to these results. If this had been ELP instead of Rush the forum would be awash in burned out threads and overturned pollls. Rush should inspired as much if not more love than poor old reviled ELP shouldn't it? |

Hey Micky! ?
What happens if any of them end in a draw? This isn't the only close run thing. |

I've seen that. I don't remember if this came up years ago when the first battle of the band came up. If anyone does remember let me know and we'll do it the same way. good question. Not sure but definitely I am not inclined to break ties myself. I am no saint and have my bias hahah. I love who I love and dislike those I do. Likely I will ask one voter from each side to make a plea and both Raff and I will judge upon the merits and decide. No ties.. Raff and I would eventually agree to agree upon a winner based on the 'evidence'. |

I like that idea Scott. I hadn't thought of that possibility. Perhaps will a multi vote option, one could say it wouldn't be fair to the 1st round winner the two tieing bands had to face. We'll see but I agree, it is something we should hash out as not just this one, but others are razor thin and well could end up in ties. I really don't think it is fair to let one person decide. Nor do we have the time for run offs. These winners get a week break while the other half of the bracket goes on.. after that it is a race to the finish with no breaks for any band. A run off would screw up the weekend to weekend polling time. |

I think this poll has by and far the most participants. The other ones sit somewhere around 60-65 voters or so while this one has eclipsed 80.
EDIT: But I expect Dream Theater's matchup will be similar. Those who like DT will vote for them, and those who don't will vote the opposite, regardless of who their opponent is. Edited by Metalmarsh89 - December 02 2014 at 12:54 |

You mean you haven't got a rule!? Shocking! When is the cut off point? I'm sure you have said but I don't remember (I don't recall, I've got no memory for anything at all) A threesome might work? (snigger ) |

or better yet. Perhaps it is fair to let one person decide but not someone like me.
perhaps a vip VP who breaks ties. I have an idea as to a person for that... a non partisan who hasn't (that I know of) really expressed a love or dislike of any bands. |
