I'm looking catchy/low-fi'ish punk/garage rock/indie

Fairly simple and short songs.

Similar to the more raw Guided by Voices.
Crushed like a rose in the riverflow.

Protomartyr's Under Color of Official Right comes to mind. Funny, cynical, dark, creative, catchy, garage-y post-punk. Parquet Courts' s/t debut, also. They have some stoner ballad type overtones, but very smart punk/post-punk. In my opinion, their second album Sunbathing Animal is better, but it's not particularly like what you're looking for (a little more stoner-y) and doesn't really make sense unless you listen to the entire album. My favorite recent release sort of in this vein would probably be Iceage's You're Nothing. Under 30 minutes of hardcore post-punk (yet oddly not post-hardcore) and still feels very complete. Some real emotion in there, too. Their debut is also good and even shorter, but the songs are more in the experimental Joy Division-y direction. Less catchy, but very interesting songs. Maybe the album that brought about a lot of these new post-punk bands.

But the whole genre of hardcore punk seems to be what you're looking for. Minor Threat's Out of Step is a classic, with short songs, full of hooks and distortion pedals.

Also, Wire's Pink Flag is pretty fun. Not garage-y but punk-y and melodic.

LCD Soundsystem's debut is where it's at. Definitely the most fun and danceable.
I like Arcade Fire as music makers but as people they come off as very pretentious.
Anthony's face is a decent to a light six.
