Wow. Just wow. Well, not "wow, I haven't heard anything better in my life", more like "wow, how in God's name to describe this". But I can say this is a fairly good album, better than I would have expected at least. Now...hm...where to put it? It's definitely screwing with our heads. I do fully hear the Kosmische-related stuff, so the Krautrock idea isn't half bad. The second strongest scent is given by the "avant-ish" pieces, but I'd actually agree with James - it's not that much focused as to be avant-prog. Is it progressive? The parts of the sum are, while the sum of the parts could be overall called experimental (and just that), rather than, I don't know, progressive or prog-rock. For Eclectic, I'm unsure. It doesn't have a true correspondent with something else from the genre, which gives a bit uncomfortable feeling, and it didn't seem to me that you mixed that many elements - then again, if a couple of pieces are experimental (the kosmische/electronic experiment ing, that is), others are avant-ish, and we can't place the work in either of the defined genres...aargh! Damn. It's time like this that we would need a "purely experimental prog" category.

I'm glad you liked it, Rico. I didn't think categorizing would be this difficult. Sorry. Another album could be a deciding factor for some people's opinions, I think, and I was planning on releasing the 2nd album anywhere from a few weeks to two months from now. At the worst case scenario that you guys can't decide, I can copyright that album, make sure it's finished, get some album art, and then give earlier promo records to a select few before it actually is released (or release it earlier) before a sub-genre is set in stone. It would give more information and be more efficient (in theory) especially if it is difficult to move an artist from one sub-genre to another, but the factor of waiting and added complexity make it a back-up plan, IMO.

I copyrighted In Anima through the Library of Congress, so it's all official. It worked well, so I'm planning to do that with all of them.

I listened to the album last night, and agree that it's difficult to pin down category-wise. I'm not sure if it's really progressive rock, it's certainly a fairly interesting and experimental album though. I don't think avant would be a good fit, but I don't know where it should go, if anywhere. I would indeed like to hear the second album before passing any further judgment.

Alright. We'll wait for any more comments, and I think the 2nd album may be coming out sooner than I even anticipated (I initially anticipated two months, but it could be just a few weeks or less). When I get everything finalized on that, you'll hear from me about it.

Well I'm back at my home computer and now that I'm not on my grandma's machine i've taken the oppurtunity to listen to this, and I'll probably be listening to it by the time 2009 rolls around.
As for the genre. I don't know, sometimes I barely know what genre I'm even talking about.
I'd suggest post rock, which is something nobody's mentioned yet, but it's far to synthy at my first listen to be post rock. But they sound so much like progressive electronic at the beginning. "The Rain" definetely sounds like post rock, but it's not a long enough track!
The name "Casualties in Applied Metaphysics" is definetely post/math rock though. Maybe if you had named the album, "The clouds are nothing but a barren wasteland upon which we throw our sorrows" then people would have definetely said you're a post rock band.

I love how post-rock titles are always so long. Red Sparowes's get me every time.

Don't mess with me. I can give your albums bad reviews.

In fact, I'm going to call Torman Maxt and tell them they can stop hiding their faces in shame.
Also, Latimer called. He said he heard your stuff and said, "This little sh*t gave The Snow Goose a bloody TWO?"

Hey, that's not my fault. I'll get promo copies of Ex to a few people here within the next few weeks, I assume. Not sure... but I'll definitely post that here when I'm done with it. Either it will clear things up... or make them worse.

Our 2nd album is out, so this thread is now officially revived and everything is to be re-defined.
Just click on my signature and follow the directions on the site. The lineup information is in the Discography section.
