But what do you mean Dean by double O and what do you Chris mean by 006.5% ?

Indeed, SC has to send application, as in case with Stewart Copeland and Ray Manzarek is currently going on. Who will it be, that's not so sure as of now.

007 is James Bond - "Do pay attention 007" is what "Q" says to James Bond when he shows him all the wizz spy gadgets.

I was making a joke while making a point. Bob has already volunteered to be the SC proposing Pretty Things for Proto-Prog.

Yeah unfortunately I don't think I can contribute much.  I have two of their albums, but don't really know much about the band or anything.  I just knew their sound and thought it belonged here.
Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.

Given the significance of PF sorrow, which is often cited as the first concept album, they would seem like a good addition to me (personal view, I think I'm allowed one!).

Thumbs Up Agree -- just "discovered" the Prettys myself, a few months ago. I now have Emotions ('67) and Parachute ('70) -- great albums.  (I want "Sorrow," but the original version is not on Itunes.)

With concepts, psychedelia, strings, etc, a shoe-in for "proto" or "related," IMO.

I especially recommend Parachute to fans of classic rock (such as The Kinks) -- prog or otherwise. Cool

I missed them "back in the day" -- they were not at all well known this side of the pond. Pity.

So that's it :-D I saw most of Bond movies when I was young, so with Czech dubbing (as our foolish TV's dub everything), so I know this line as "Dávej pozor agente 007". + I always confused  characters 0 & O, as they look almost the same, so I thought that you said double OO. Smile used in this case would probably be (obvious) O_o

Too overcombined Dean, like plot of very complex movie.

OK, 5 stars equals 5 stars, they have the same adding privileges, but I forgot that admins add bands too, as it's not happening so often (except you, John Easy Money etc).

I listened both mentioned albums, I thought and I'm unsure. Proto ?

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

Enough people here think Proto and Bob is going to propose them to the PR-team to evaluate, further opinion is interesting, but won't change anything.

Not trying to put major events in motion, just adding my opinion in the bunch of those that are already here.

How is this going?  Do we think they'll end up on here?

I heard the Pretty Things were good, but I didn't do my research and I ended up getting Savage Eye, since it was the only one the record store had. It's terrible. I want to check out S. F. Sorrow or Parachute, but I'm reluctant after my bad experience with Savage Eye.

^ Their first two albums are run-of-the-mill 1960s british R&B Beat combo stuff (two early singles were covered by Bowie on Pin-ups). The next 'Emotions' saw them go Psyche-pop like many of those 1960s R&B bands, SF Sorrow and Parachute are a culmination of that move towards psyche - personally I think SF Sorrow is over-acclaimed, it's okay, but not great. Anything after Parachutes is best avoided.

I agree! And it's such a great album!

SF Sorrow is a concept-album released in 1968. What is surprising is that it is not proto-prog but really prog !

I happened to notice that their song Private Sorrow-Balloon Burning was on the Supernatural Fairy Tales compilation so for the heck of it I checked PA to see what category they were in and saw that they aren't included.  Additional research found this thread from a year + ago.  Just curious if anything further was decided regarding this band and whether proto-prog or psychedelic prog was an appropriate category for them.

Bumping this one ever so slightly, as Fruits de Mer now have a tribute album out - SF Sorrow given a run through by 13 different contemporary bands, of which a few of the contributors are in the PA database.

I've re-bumped the thread in the AZ - we're waiting on one vote, but indications are they will get approved for PP.

MMmmhh yes - that would indeed be great. Wonderful band that was every bit as charming as those boys from Liverpool. I loooooove ParachuteHeart

Now, if they get approved, whose the unlucky b*****d that gets to do the donkey work on that addition? A massive task ahead for someone by the looks of it.

Hehe, it was the bio and disco I thought of as the massive task. The addition into the database itself is a 2 minute task at worst with a prepared bio at hand ;-)
