call me crazy...

"Song" - "album" - "Artist"

"Rainbow's End" - Breathless - Camel
"Tell me" - RainDances - Camel
"Space-Dye Vest" - Awake - Dream Theater
"SuperHero" - Superhero - Carptree
"harvest of Souls" - Dark Matter - IQ
"Guiding Light" - Seventh House - IQ
"Neverland" - Marbles - Marillion
"Never comes the day" - On the threshold of a Dream - The Moodey Blues
"How is your life today" - Lightbulb Sun - Porcupine Tree
"Stop Swimming" - Stupid Dream - Porcupine Tree
"Love Beyond Words" - Snow - Spock's Beard
"Bridge Across Forever" - Bridge Across forever - Transatlantic

All of the listed, have atleast caused me to choke up if not ... cry... at some point or other. I am one that is known by many as a softy. I cry, a lot... take that how you will. these songs are none the less, emotional as heck.

As for the solos, look no further then Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, and IQ. Tons of solos in their works.

"Hope Leaves" by Opeth

"Trains" by Porcupine Tree

and I find a lot of Tool to be very emotional particularly some of the songs on Aenima like "Eulogy", "Push*t" or "Third Eye" also the song "10,000 Days Wings pt 2" is very emotional.

also, if he's into DT and we're talking about emotional, how could we forget Pain of Salvation? Any song, any album, there will be something there, somewhere

Marillion's Steve Hogarth sends shivers up and down my spine when he sings "Beautiful", "Afraid of Sunlight" and "King". Steve Wilson does something similar with "Trains", "Heart Attack In A Layby" and his vocal interlude in "The Sky Moves Sideways - Phase 1". These guys sure no how to turn on the emotional taps.!

Quite honestly, the one that gets me the most is Pink Floyd's 'The Final Cut' (the song, not the album. When he's singing the refrain "would you send me packing... or would you take me home" and his voice breaks on the final note... moves me every time. In addition, it features one of Gilmour less showy, yet most powerful solo. I really feel that it encapsulates his sound perfectly.

To stay with Pink Floyd, one of the most emotional songs I've heard is "When the Tigers Broke Free", in which Roger Waters relates the circumstances of his father's death at Anzio during World War II. His singing there is utterly heart-wrenching, especially the last line when he sings "and that's how the high command/took my daddy from me". Brings tears to my eyes every time.

'A Collection' and 'The Only Unforgivable Thing' by Marillion. Oh, and talk about running over the edge of a cliff to find that you can fly, the '....Or you could love' bit of 'A Few Words For The Dead' where the band come in. Lifts me everytime. Oh, just one more, the vocal build at the close of 'This Strange Engine' again by Marillion.

Guess who my favourite band is!

Obviously, Marillion are the kings of emotional solos.

Well, emotional solos are a Neo progressive affair.

On the other hand, I would like to mention 2 great emotional solos:

roger waters - wghat god wants pt3, the 2nd solo: ..."Christ it's freezing inside"...
anyone's daughter - adonis (the solo at the end)
[HEADPINS - LINE OF FIRE: THE RECORD HAVING THE MOST POWERFUL GUITAR SOUND IN THE WHOLE HISTORY OF MUSIC!>

Man, go play him some Hendrix to feel the magic. He was, he is and he 'll always be the most progressive of all guitar players.

A lot of Genesis music is very emotional (Peter Gabriel era). Firt of Fifth of course, and After the Ordeal from SEBTP. I also get choked up whenever I listen to Visions of Angels from Trespass.

To name a few Marillion solos that is, but yes Rothery is the king of emotional guitar solos (along with David Gilmour).Approve

Pretty much any Roine Stolt solo. Some solos he does are so perfect it hurts.

Afraid Of Sunlight is full of emotinal moments as well. I mentioned "Afraid Of Sunlight" (especially "I've been in pain for so long. I can't even say what hurts anymore". Lyrics that simply ache.)

"Beyond You" - the section that starts with, "If I was a child, I would refuse to leave," and you have that Spector 'Wall Of Sound' image.

"Gazpacho" - Immediately following the section of "...you can tell it to the ocean" and the band simply explodes. I'll have that on in the car and when that moment arrives I can literally see the back windshield vibrate.

Slow emotional solos are my favourite, here are a few:

Pink Floyd - Comfrtably Numb, On The Turning Away
Genesis - Firth Of Fifth
Marillion - Easter (easily of the most emotional solos)
Roger Waters - What God Wants, Part 3
Dream Theater - Lines In The Sand, Finally Free, Razor's Edge (Octavarium), Another Day, Goodnight Kiss, Hell's Kitchen, Hollow Years (Live @ Budokan), Through Her Eyes (Live Scenes From New York), Spirit Carries On
Liquid Tension Experiment - Freedom of Speech, State Of Grace
Queensr˙che: Silent Lucidity
Spock's Beard - She Is Everything
Neal Morse - God's Theme 1

A few emotional singing which pops into my head:

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb, Hey You, Mother
Marillion - Seasons End
King Crimson - Epitaph
Dream Theater - Space Dye Vest, Anna Lee, Through Her Eyes, Spirit Carries On
Porcupine Tree - Lazarus
Spock's Beard - Carie, She Is Everything
Neal Morse - Oh, To Feel Him

As you can see I'm a big DT fan.
