P.S. I think that if Renaissance released its first albums nowadays they'd be called neo prog. And even Yes and Genesis would face similar problems (at least with their first 2 releases). |
Sorry to disagree Tarcisio (I always do, so get used, it's not personal ):
- Renaissance first two albums were closer to Folk rather than Symphonic but all along their career they played in the borderline of both genres.
- Yes debut, with covers and everything was a very advanced album, closer to Proto Prog than to Symphonic but since the start we all knew what they were going to be.
- Genesis first album was top 40 stuf that didn't reached the charts because of a bad management, but their second album was 200% Prog.
None of this three bands could be remotely Neo Prog in their first albums for a simple reason, there was no Neo Prog before 1979 or in the worst scenario before A Trick of theTail because for some people this was the first Neo Prog album ever.
I will check with my team, already I have the music and have to insist in my point, they guitar a la Roothery is so strong that Airion can be considered Neo Prog easily, the music is good but IMO less pompous and brilliant as in Symphonic and at the same time lush and sober as in Neo Prog.
But please send me by PM the bio you made.

Dear Ivan:
Don't worry about not agreeing with me, it's always good to hear a
different opinon. Besides, it would be a boring life if everybody
agreed with one another, wouldn't it? The only pont I want to correct
is that I know there was no neo prog before 1979, if you read carefully
I was just saying that if those bands released their first albuns
TODAY, they might be labelled as such. But really I was joking. I
don't really know how to label a band that well. But I like neo prog
very much and I rate Marillion highly. During the dark times of the
80's I think they were crucial to keep prog music alive, well and in
the public eye, even if some purists did not see them as "real"
prog or things like that.
Anyway I sent you a personal message and it looks like you did not got it. Did you?

OH, by the way:
Do you really think Arion is less pompous than the average Symphonic band? How pompous they should sound to be labeled as such?

Tarcisio, it''s not a matter of degrees or precision, it's a bit experience and a bit feeling to value influences.
I believe they are closer to Neo Prog, lets wait for whhat the whople team says.
BTW: Never received your PM

I will send a new one. The biography I'm sending is not exactly the one
I wrote, since I got no copy of it. I hope you like it. About the
samples: do you want me to send to you? Or did you get the ones I sent
to the site?
best regards

HI, Cesar:
Iwas curious how you learnt about Arion, since the CD is so hard to
find nowadays and it seems no one could find it on the internet for
downloading. How did you get the CD? Can you tell me?
Best regards

You will be able to add the discography after this.

There are a few sites around that deal in the harder to find stuff. I think a couple are completely supported by our membership.

Hi, progbrazil:
Nice to meet you. Yes, Eyes Of Time is a great song on the CD, but my
favorite is still Land Of Dreams. Do you know it? This was the last
song they played when they opened for Focus when this dutch prog legend
played in Belo Horizonte.
Best wishes
