I think most great love songs are to be found outside prog. I don't mean slushy AOR ballads, of course (I hate them with a passion) - for this girl, the best love songs belong to classic hard rock bands. Some examples?

Deep Purple - Mistreated, Soldier of Fortune
Rainbow - Rainbow Eyes
Gary Moore - Empty Rooms, Still Got the Blues
Led Zeppelin - Since I've Been Loving You
Gillan - For Your Dreams

They're all quite sad songs, but I don't really like the happy ones too much...that with being terminally unlucky in love! Wink

I think Alan Parsons won the Oscar on this matter... "A dream within a dream" actually gets me; Afterglow (Genesis) also moves me quite a bit... "Playground love" by AIR...

Hmmm, well I'm not into love songs really, so my list is mainly depressing stuff!

Van der Graaf Generator - Lost
Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac - Man of the World (I class this as a love song, of sorts)
Gov't Mule - Beautifully Broken

And one slightly cheerful one, but not because it's an amazing tune as such, but because it holds a lot of memories for me:

Guns n' Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine (my best friend's favourite love song, she loves it and we always dance to it, it's our song).

Steve Hackett - Hoping Love Will Last
Gary Moore - Story of the Blues
Sting - Be Still My Beating Heart
Genesis - Hold on My Heart

I'm not really a fan of love songs, I just like this song because of its repetitive rhythm,  but the lyrics happen to be based on a love letter.

"Lady Fantasy" is a love song? I always thought it more a sort of a fairy tale wet dream. But anyway...

"Vision" Peter Hammill
"Michelle" McCartney
"Julia" Lennon

Well, then consider it "love song related"Tongue Actually, I think it's more about a love out of reach.

Also, "Julia" is a song about Lennon late mother, so...does that count as a love song?

Well...he does sing "So I sing this song of love..."

I wanted to add "Dolcissima Maria" by PFM, even though I don't understand the Italian lyrics, the title sounds like it, and it's a lovely song.

If I can find the lyrics, I'll translate them into English for you. BTW, the title means "Sweetest Mary", and it is indeed a love song.
