Aquelarre is also a must (including terrific lyrics), I recommend specially their last two studio albums, Brumas (1974) and Siesta (1975).

David Lebon - Nayla (1980, 2nd solo album). David plays guitar & sings, and assembled a great band for this record. He was then still a member of Seru Giran, the last group founded by Charly García.

In may 2024 an album came out from Julián Martínez called El silencio de las estrellas and it is as good as the best of Wakeman or Yes can be without as instrumental bliss.
Try it out and make him popular, anyone knows how to create a profile on Prog Archives for an artist that is yet to be listed?

Another top tier jazz fusion / prog rock band from Argentina was SÍNTESIS which sadly only released one album but IMHO it's a bonafide masterpiece and one of the most accomplished slices of technical prog of the era in Argentina. Full album here: |

Hi, Bubu ... listened to various pieces from "El Eco del Sol". Very nice stuff, although I would not compare them to YES at all, since this stuff is probably more classically minded or symphonic defined to create a nice development of the instrumentation. YES, by comparison is much more rock minded and leans onto Steve Howe a lot, which made it special, but Bubu ... distributes its music amidst its many members based on what I heard, and did not fall for the rock minded "solo" details at all that I could feel. |

Hi, Quassi Nice stuff, and describing this could be sifficult, since it borders on many areas, and I'm not sure how to describe it. It is well done, and sounds very well defined and not exactly a showy something or other, but there is some ability here, even if (at times) we might describe this as just nice music ... or what some folks used to call "easy listening" ... it's a bit more than that, though. I'm not sure what I say here is clear enough about this group's material ... from the album Mareas. But there is some really nice listening stuff. It is rather trippy and has interesting turns and touches. Nice stuff. It gets harder in the last track of the album. Still nice! Lenin (Rio Hecho Caceria) Surprise listen for me, mainly because this is ... how shall I say ... not a single "genre" or "style" that you are familiar with ... it is all over the place and it is strong ... and GOOD. I was already into the 3rd piece on the album, and going ... this is kinda neat ... can't place it anywhere else ... a very wide variety of touches in the rock areas, more towards the hard, and "loud", although I did not feel that things were being done for the solo effect and its loudness ... the music is better defined that that simplistic garbage. Good listen, putting to shame some of the rock choices listed monthly ... this one is special, and it is not song driven, or does the same thing in the next piece ... in some ways this is an ear pleaser. Some really nice touches all around. Good listen, and forget what kind of music this is, because it will go many places. Nice to hear something this good and far out ... and look at when ... 2010 ... special indeed, for not giving in to the commercial sound and designs. This is very spirited stuff. |

Merlin - s/t (1980) is an incredible album, featuring the late Alejandro De Michele (RIP). Great songwriting sprinkled with tons of Yes-esque stylistics.

Ah! nobody mentioned Tempano from Venezuela. They made 3 fantastic prog albums, but be aware in the mit- 80 the band made some pop albums not horrible but for not for prog fans. Also, I want to take this oportunite and Introduce this following band. As I am a spanish speaker and from the Dominican Republic, however I lived in US for many years. There is a band from my country land that made 3 fantastic prog albums. La inmaculada d Brevedad De La Carne. 2003 La fabulas Del Hambre. 2010 La Galaxia Canibal 2023. The latest albums is their best so far. however the debut is consider a classic. The band is Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic a place in the Caribbean which is extremely rare to find a band that dedicate the time making progressives music. due to the fact that this country has a very minimal fallowing, however Metal do have more acceptances and fans. Because of that Voces En El Plasma is more a Prog Metal than Prog Rock. However, never the less it is still recommended.

I thought the topic was not only about Argentinian bands? but Latin America as well. I saw someone mentioned Los Jaivas and they are from Chile.

Also I will highly recommend Pappo's Blues and Rata Blanca. Pappo's Blues was a hard rock & hard blues from Argentina which I think was fantastic.
Rata Blanca are still active and is a Metal/hard Rock band. Great bands to check them out if like these subgenres.
