What are the rules about prog? Can one of the two be well known, either original or cover?

Out of competition. This is a mashup/cover by Brass Against of Beyoncé's Freedom and Rage Against the Machine's Freedom.

Beyoncé ft. Kendrick Lamar - "Freedom"

Rage Against the Machine - "Freedom"

Brass Against ft. Sophia Urista - "Freedom"

It crossed my mind, and I'm very well aware about (non)including prog stuff especially if they have received 50 or more ratings. I'm not sure, but I think we can make an exception on this particular round. If it is up to me, I can allow one of the ProgArchived songs here. What do you and others think?

A couple of Twin Peaks tracks were covered already in the TV show soundtracks topic and recently I did a poll which mentions the album Xiu Xiu Plays the Music of Twin Peaks, and I don't want to cover the examples I used there. Instead of going for instrumentals, I will go for two proper songs (have vocals) -- one used in Twin Peaks, and the 2016 "tribute".

Julee Cruise - "Into the Night" (1989)

Xiu Xiu - "Into the Night" (2016)

In the poll I did mentioning this Xiu Xiu album someone mentioned that they aren't interested in covers (I am), and in this case I think that Xiu Xiu have re-interpreted music and given it very much their own spin, so while based on other music and certainly directly inspired by it, it also has uniqueness.

* edited to change my "Into the Night" embed to a video that seems to work more globally (thanks Anders).

By the way, love the topic and title for it.

The rules given in the OP didn't exclude PA tracks for either the original or the cover, and because of this, both of my tracks are in PA. I think it's too late to change the rules now.

That's what I thought, too. Unless exclusion of PA tracks was implied by posting this in General Music Discussions?

My original track is in PA.

we usually do non-prog, non-PA artists and songs.

The last time we had a covers theme. While we only nominated the cover, it was allowed for either the original or cover to be on PA. As it is, I forgot that Black Sabbath is in on PA. I am okay with allowing PA artists for both.

It is never too late. If necessary, I can edit my original post and rule the inclusion of prog stuff out, and so you can edit your original post and nominate some other songs.

I'm okay with prog songs, but we normally exclude them. Lorenzo? I'll do whatever you say, as you're the originator of the Interactive Poll format.

I really think it's up to the threadmaster. I'm fine with prog and I'm fine with excluding prog. We have done both, there is no general rule. Given that people have already included tracks on PA I think we should stick to that. However, everybody knows that a number of people don't vote for stuff they already know, so everyone can make their own attempt to avoid this if they want.

No, I won't be doing that. To do so would be to provide tacit approval for a change in the rules that I don't approve.

Okay, if not a big deal, let the rules remain the same then. Thumbs Up

^ Thanks Anders for checking it out and finding that video. That is the same, and since that works in both my country and yours, I will edit my former post to include your find. Much appreciated.

Paolo Conte: "Via con me"

Original version:

Negri per caso: Via con me (Cover version)

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

Here is the cover version, which is an amazing version done by ...

Johnny Cash - "Rusty Cage"

But I bet most of you haven't heard this version of it.....

Sara DeBell - "Rusty Cage"

My "featured" artist Brass Against just released a version of this. So, here's a fourth version. Smile
