I'm just not a fan of Derek Shulman whose cheese-grater voice is sort of like singing, but different somehow. Confused

The easier it is to classify something under a genre label, the less progressive it actually is.

I gave all of Gentle Giant's albums a generous 3-star rating when I listened to them for the first time about three years ago, but it's only after listening to them all again recently that I realised I'd overrated many of them. Embarrassed

The "worst" YES album still sounds better than the best Gentle Giant album. Geek

The best Pink Floyd song ever is "Welcome to the Machine".

I couldn't agree more that some of the greatest fusion albums are actually not prog albums. Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew," for example, doesn't come close to being "prog." However, some albums that fall into the fusion category are prog albums as well, such as "Gazeuse!" by Gong or "Bundles" by the Soft Machine.

I never understood the term "math rock."  ALL rock (in fact, all music) is ultimately based upon mathematics.  This goes back to Greek philosopher Pythagorus, at least:

Similarly, "Post Rock" makes no sense, unless there has been a complete halt in the evolution or rock music.

Post what?  Post electric guitars?  Post drum kits?

Bloody nonsense, all these arbitrary terms.  Same for prog metal/extreme prog metal.  Here's some extreme prog metal for you, none finer.

This one hurts. Ouch I don't know which Camel album made you conclude with this insult.
If you dislike the band, that's fine, but no need to belittle a band so much.
Am I belittling them by calling them bubblegum prog?? I don't dislike them actually, I just don't feel they added anything new to the prog sphere - just a convenient starter band for those looking to try prog.

^I agree with that, and there can be a band that overlaps the two, they should be separate categories. I don't think it's really much of a hot take. Also, I don't think either are actually subgenres of prog rock. Also not much of a hot take.

How is this statement negative in any way? 70's bubblegum pop music was enjoyable imho. I'd take 70's bubblegum pop over 2020's over-autotuned trap pop music any day. B)

Well, it is awfully negative for me. Ouch

RPI, as a genre, never did much for me
Record Labels should allow bands to use and explore older sounds & production techniques (things get a little samey)
Post-Rock to me is Godspeed & anything related!
Get rid of the Indie/Raga baloney!
For GG, only ATT, Glass House & Free Hand hold replay value (as whole albums - the rest have filler)
Camel are bubblegum prog
I get annoyed by Hawkwind's sound
Zappa's Man From Utopia album is better than Drowning Witch & Them or US
I adore the "studio trickery" live album format (it elevates the nuances with the live sound!)
Foxtrot doesn't impact me as much as anything else during the classic period (possibly due to overplay)

Non-prog...
The essence of Coldplay make up Rush of Blood... & Viva... (maybe Parachutes to a degree as well)
Radiohead became Radiohead on Kid A and lasted only until In Rainbows (Amnesiac is good, but not Hail...)
The Stones lost their harder-edged emotional content after Brian died
I prefer every other Beatles album to Sgt Pepper (no joke!)
Pet Sounds is the only great BB album!
ELO are nothing special
^^ same with the Doors (sorry dad!)
Only first couple APP albums are good (not you Eye in the Sky, sorry!)
Breakfast in America > Crime... > ...Moments

LOL Wow. St. Anger is widely considered their single worst recording, and rightfully so.

Yes made nothing great post-Relayer. Agree
Canterbury prog is underrated and Camel are not Canterbury! Agree
ATOTT by Genesis is a snooze fest! Agree
Soft Machine's Fourth is their masterpiece! Agree
You are hard pressed to find a M. Davis record you can sit through and thoroughly enjoy! I love J. Johnson though! Love Miles and sit through loads of his stuff
Most Krautrock is aimless goofy noodling or just pathetic! Wonderful stuff love it

Canterbury is a snooze fest as are Camel most of the time (prog's equivalent of elevator music) Booo
Soft Machine have a lot of noodling, even on PA no one really cares about them! I Do! 5,000 ratings say different!
No one really cares about Gong either I Do! > 5,000 ratings!
Miles Davis is not prog (not a hot take) He's released at least a few prog albums (jazz fusion)
Krautrock - don't know why anyone listens to it (even Germans hate it mostly) Love It!

5000 ratings for all albums is not a lot even here!

I don't believe that Jazz Fusion is prog!

I'd argue that 5000 ratings prove that some people care rather than no-one.
