Back to Madness - Stratovarius review -

The track is stunning in it's beauty - it is a commentary on madness as the title suggests. The Band uses a symphonic structure with tempo changes and a little very interesting vocal commentary towards the end of the track. I find a lot of similarity here to Queensryche's earlier work. The keyboard work as well as the leadwork is per usual for Strat quite brilliant. Some people class this as power metal but it is so much deeper than that. Kamelot / Stratovarius - no comparrison. I feel sad for people who don't listen to Stratovarius properly in that it is they who miss the point.

Oh - and by the way - there has been a new album released since my previous thread being Polaris.

I have 6 Stratovarius albums including Polaris... And while some of it is great power metal music, it never really is progressive metal. The most recent album has a track (the first one) that at moments sound prog-metal-ish, but that's it.

Now I really don't understand... You've been told the band is under evaluation for Prog-Related - which means they do still stand a chance of being added in some capacity, even if a lot of people disagree. Why do you have to insist like that? Can't you just wait and see how this turns out? You can post all the reviews you want, and you're not going to convince people who don't hear any progressiveness in their music.

Raff - it was agreed a year ago that they would go under prog related - I am still waiting. This time next year I will still be waiting. Somehow, somewhere someone has gotten quite anti Strat for some reason - it may be political, it may be personal but it definately aint for the music.

It ws NEVER agreed that they would go under Prog Related. We agreed to evaluate them, and then they were only proposed recently, not "a year ago".

If you think we keep bands out of here for "political" or "personal" reasons and not for the music then you are more than welcome to leave whenever you like. Stern Smile

Why this paranoia? "Anti Strat" sentiments? Why? Oh, I guess someone has some hate for those damn cold Finnish people.... Or maybe somebody hates colorful covers and is a cover-racist, or maybe the political ideas of the band are too much for somebody (what political ideas?)....

If Stratovarius hasn't been added is because they ARE NOT PROG_METAL.

And if they're related, at least according to this site, wait and see.

Mr T - tell me what qualifies anyone here to argue with the professional critics out there and every other music review site on the planet. You care to argue with the pros out there?

The difference between PA and a professional music reviewer is the lack of copy editors and pay checks.

Professional critics? It seems you have absolutely no idea of who those so-called 'critics' often are. I have been reading music magazines for decades, and in no way do I believe that any of those 'professionals' had better insight or deeper knowledge than some of the people here (or even on other sites). And I'd also like to see evidence of those other review sites.

unlike with academic/classicval music, I don't believe in the idea of music experts in prog-rock.. Too new a genre, too unknown, too understudied.... There's just people that know more and people that know less.... some with theory knowledge, some with none, but maybe with more bands knowledge..

Certainly not the ones in prog website I know of...

You haven't explained to me why the pros feel differently to the powers that be here relating to Strat - all of them. There have been previous posts here b4 mine where had the people been sitting in the same room there would have been riot police present concerning Stratovarius. Why do the arguments regarding Strat get so volatile? I was stonewalled a year ago and a year b4 that as well concerning the Strat argument and I was peaceful about it. Some of the posts I have read, granted a long time ago now, were war zones.

That looks like a post: Confused

I don't get why you are taking this so personally. There is a way that things are done on this site. Based on my understanding, it goes like this: Bands are submitted, evaluated by a team of people who are considered experts on their particular sub genre, and who are well respected here I may add, and then approved if their sound matches. Other sources, etc. aren't really considered in the process - it's the music.

Yet the fact that Stratovarious isn't included here seems to have you banging your head against a wall, as if the site is performing some monstrous crime against music and yourself. Even though they are currently (to my understanding from this thread) already being considered for inclusion. Why does it matter to you so much that they are included here that you are making such a fuss? Does your ability to enjoy their music rely on their being officially acknowledged as prog? It's just music - enjoy it for what it is. Do you want to spread the word about them? Go into general music discussion and talk about them - I'm sure people will bite.

Ultimately, it's just music - we are here to enjoy it Smile

This seems to me that is a whim of Davethe Slave.

And when this turns to be a whim....... nothing good will happen.

WHIM> (hwm, wm)
n.
1. A sudden or capricious idea; a fancy.
2. Arbitrary thought or impulse: governed by whim.
3. A vertical horse-powered drum used as a hoist in a mine.

[Short for whim-wham, fanciful object.]

I hope that not the third option.

Besides that DavetheSlave only argument is in the likes: "you listen to x track or x other track of strat and see how prog is.

How could argue to that logic??Confused

I hate the uneneding bickering caused by some prime(evil) need to categorize, rate, slice and dice . There should be no accounting on a prog site.  Slap chopper where are you, you are gonna love my nuts ! ?
There are a ton of bands that are not listed here that should be , frankly, I no care, I have the records and I have the bliss.
So lets all stop typing and start grooving to the music Cool
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.
