^^ Discogs lists it as an album. In 2012 "Instrumental Impressions" was reissued on CD. I think it could be added either as an album or as a Fan Club release. I prefer the 1st option, but can live with any.

^ I don't hear any prog in it either lol! Interestingly, Devega Music Publishing have put the full album on its own YouTube channel as a single upload just 6 days ago - complete with links below it to purchase on Amazon and Apple Music - or listen to on Spotify, so it seems to be generating some interest just now for whatever reason. I only became interested in the band myself after Zap Niles played a track of theirs on his recent 'Prog-Scure Special' podcast entitled "Rock 'n' Women #2".

I'm unsure what this site's policy is towards albums of music that are recorded specifically by a band so that the material can be licensed to organisations for use in film, television, radio and other media rather than sold in the usual way to fans of the band, so I'll wait and see what Eugene has to say on the matter before I add the album to PA.

Edit: There was a thread about library music by prog artists started in July 2015, but I'm none the wiser after reading through it. Francis Monkman and Anthony Phillips were mentioned, since both have done a load of this type of material, but it doesn't look as though much (if any) of Ant Phillip's stuff has been added to PA apart from the "Missing Links" series, and Francis Monkman was suggested for inclusion here in July 2021, resulting in him being taken to the PSIKE team for evaluation as a Progressive Electronic candidate, but he doesn't seem to have been added yet. I can't check up on the status of the evaluation on progfreak 'cos that site is in disarray right now as far as the PA section is concerned. Ouch

A webpage giving details of Ant Phillips's library music can be found here: https://www.genesis-news.com/c-Anthony-Phillips-Recording-Compendium-Special-Library-Music-s826.html, but the "Missing Links" series that is included in his PA discography isn't listed here in the timeline of his library music releases, although it is mentioned in the introductory paragraph.

^ Seems official enough to me. My guess would be to add it to the "Fan Club" category.

Maybe Eugene will share his opinion too?

I'm listening to it right now. Pretty good, although not very "prog"... Wink

^ Does the "Instrumental Impressions" album actually meet the criteria for inclusion on PA? It's on bandcamp, and on YouTube as a playlist, with the YouTube audio supplied by the Devega Records label who originally issued the album on vinyl in 1972. However the Sonorama Records bandcamp page for the album says "Lost classic for the collectors of Italian Library Funk: One of the most sought after cult LPs on the tiny Devega label from Milan, produced in 1972 for license purposes only".

If permitted on the site despite this apparent restriction with the original release, would it go in here as a studio album, or in the Official Singles, EPs, Fan Club & Promo category?

^ Yes Julien, that all looks pretty good to me, and you've done it in damn quick time too! I thought checking all that lot would tie you up for an hour or more at the very least! Don't know whether you want to go a bit further and add in some more reissues (eg the two 'Garden of Delights' German reissues of the fourth album "Minne" in 2008 and 2015), but that's just a minor matter really, now that everything else has been put right.

All four albums need tidying up (format of tracks listing and line up / musicians doesn't comply with the official guide, & total time is missing for all albums). There might be a few other re-issues worth adding in too, but that's not for me to decide. Some issues (eg of the 1st album) have a different running order - see Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/artist/604991-Joy-Unlimited.

I won't include my own attempt at adding up the total times for each album - the basic individual times for all albums seem to be OK from a quick glance, but the musicians involved might need a quick check over for all albums, since it looks like clarke2001 has only altered the vocalists involved in the various albums of the band when he entered the details. The fourth album "Minne" didn't feature Dieter Kindl on bass, guitar or percussion (see discogs back cover image, or this alternative, which is clearer to read than the discogs one: https://vinylpoint.ru/img/thumbs/11a6070e984443602f0ff9a27c4f8049-1240x.jpg) and the third album "Reflections" didn't feature Klaus Nagel on guitar, woodwind, percussion or flute (though he was involved in the writing of some of the songs), nor Hans Lingenfelder on guitar. Hans Lingenfelder doesn't appear to have featured on the second album "Schmetterlinge" or the first album "Overground" either, and this first album also doesn't appear to feature Gerd Köthe on saxophone & flute.

Might need a bit of time spending on this artist to check that all details are correct. Ermm Apart from discogs, the ArtistInfo site seems to include a fairly accurate timeline of the musicians involved - apart from including two spurious contributions (by Walther Von Der Vogelweide and Lothar Höfgen) for the fourth album "Minne" on top of the 7 artists who were involved: https://music.metason.net/artistinfo?name=Joy%20Unlimited.

There was another album released by the band too, called "Instrumental Impressions", but it's described as a "Lost classic for the collectors of Italian Library Funk: One of the most sought after cult LPs on the tiny Devega label from Milan, produced 1972 for license purposes only". I won't bother adding it lol! LOL

So here is my first attempt at fixing all of this. Please tell me if it seems OK. Thanks David !

https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=77779: the single edit is shorter than the album track, and should be 5:59.

I have nothing against Bandcamp. In fact, I love this platform!

So... what's your point? Ermm

Thanks for clarifying! Your decision makes way more sense to me now.

I've noticed something.
In 2021 projeKct went on a mission to replace a lot if not all the instances of bandcamp.com and bandcamp links in the albums' release notes with just "digital album". But, now I see Julien.... put a bandcamp link in an album's release notes! Whoa! The hell freezes over. xD

But I just changed it to "Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop (with Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas)". I think it's more accurate.

Thanks!

Yep, much better. That's what it says on the side of the CD however it's get rid of the parenthesis because they're not on it.
