I suppose this falls under the banner of "prog". Some examples of what I'm looking for would be: In Flames - Lunar Strain, Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon, Opeth - Orchid, and Fall of the Leafe - Storm of the Autumnfall. |

Dissection, Unanimated, Necrophobic. The three blackened melodic death metal acts from the early 90s. Loads of harmony guitar work on their albums. At the Gates is another valid recommendation.

I'm a huge fan of all these bands and they don't even remotely sound like Thin Lizzy. They do too much tremolo picking, blast beats, and just generally black metal riffing. I meant something very much like TL's harmonies, and like the example albums I mentioned.

No one sounds like Thin Lizzy, but many metal artists using harmony guitar leads in their music are influenced by them. If you enjoy those types of harmonies I´d give Wishbone Ash a listen, but of course they aren´t extreme metal . It´s not really my favorite genre when it comes to extreme metal, so I´m a bit blank since you can´t use the suggestions I made above.

Hmm maybe the Swedish band Hearse. It´s melodic death´n´roll. yeah and maybe Desultary too. They use quite a bit of harmonies in their music too.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm just looking for stuff "like Thin Lizzy", I mean bands (specifically albums) that arrange harmonies just like they did: dual guitar harmonies, no rhythm other than the bass and drums, without tremolo or blast beats. The albums I mentioned as an example do that for the most part. I mean something like that.
It's ok if you're out of your depth, but remember I'll likely sit down for a whole album to make a fair assessment of your recs. btw, I used to ask this as "bands with riffs like Wishbone Ash", but I guess Thin Lizzy is more popular so it gets more attention ;) EDIT: depth not debt!

Arch Enemy - "Burning Bridges". That album has the 70s hard rock/heavy metal feel and harmony guitar work.(function(){function c(){var b=a.contentDocument||a.contentWindow.document;if(b){var d=b.createElement('script');d.innerHTML="window.__CF$cv$params={r:'8adc8bdb5a0b9fa5',t:'MTcyMjc1MzUyNS4wMDAwMDA='};var a=document.createElement('script');a.nonce='';a.src='/cdn-cgi/challenge-platform/scripts/jsd/main.js';document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(a);";b.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(d)}}if(document.body){var a=document.createElement('iframe');a.height=1;a.width=1;a.style.position='absolute';a.style.top=0;a.style.left=0;a.style.border='none';a.style.visibility='hidden';document.body.appendChild(a);if('loading'!==document.readyState)c();else if(window.addEventListener)document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',c);else{var e=document.onreadystatechange||function(){};document.onreadystatechange=function(b){e(b);'loading'!==document.readyState&&(document.onreadystatechange=e,c())}}}})();< height="1" width="1" style=": ; top: 0px; left: 0px; border: medium; visibility: ;">

I want an extreme metal band that plays riffs like this: harmonized melodies, no rhythm guitar chugging along in the background or anything, just bass and drums as backing. No Tremolo, no blast beats.

I don't know that this music exists. Buy a guitar, find some bandmates and do it yourself.

Lancaster's Wytch Hazel comes to mind, particularly in its melodic
twin guitar harmonies and dynamic rhythms that evoke the classic sound
of the legendary Irish band! 🎸🎸🤘 |

Love Wytch Hazel and yeah, they do the type of harmony, but the request here is that they should be done by an extreme metal band. Otherwise there's Tanith, Hällas, or Wishbone Ash in the realm of hard rock/metal.

Well, now I'm pissed they didn't do the type of harmony more! I was skeptical at first, but when I heard the harmony in Silverwing, that's some good sh*t. Thanks!

It sounds nothing like Thin Lizzy because it's not like the type of riff I asked for. I'd recommend you check both the link to a Thin Lizzy harmony I posted earlier, and some songs from the albums I mentioned in the initial post. Otherwise there'd be no reason to keep dwelling on Arch Enemy, a band that just accidentally stumbled upon that type of harmony a couple of times in an album. Or the entirety of the Swedish melodeath scene, for that matter, because I already mentioned all the albums from that scene that apply to my request (Lunar Strain and Orchid).
Look, I appreciate your intention to help, but if you're out of your depth you shouldn't feel forced to come up with something.

Therefore, our recommendations should remain
focused on artists who genuinely embody those specific qualities rather
than attempting to force connections where none exist |

What is it with new users asking questions where they'll never be satisfied, and then being completely condescending about it? I swear, this happens every few months or so Seriously, that "out of your depth" comment is so needlessly arrogant and haughty
