Seriously, I would like to see RIO, Zappa and Fusion split off from Progressive Rock and listed as a separate genre called Avant Rock.

Actually i know females who have been into the prog thing since the 70s and have turned me on to a ridiculous amount of great music including VDGG, GG etc. Extreme metal on the other hand is clearly a male led style
