Not bad to DT standards, mediocre to the standards of most music.

It is my personal favorite DT album, and is probably the last "classic" DT album. I love it. It features some of the best songwriting from DT ever IMO. It makes SFAM look average. 4.9 stars

Oh man, definitely. John Petrucci really kicks ass on this album!

Awake is awesome. Voices and Lie are my favourite songs.

Does this mean 'When dreams ..' is a classic? And 'Scenes from a memory' is just crap?
How odd

However, how would you rate "Awake" (from 1-5 stars)?

I agree that it's the last of the "classic" DT albums. In fact, only Images, Awake and ACoS are the classic DT albums. It's connected to Moore, or at least they changed their songwriting after he had left.
I wouldn't call Scenes "average" though. It's brilliant in it's own way ... I would rate both Awake and Scenes 5 stars. all of their other albums except WDADU are 4 stars for me ... they are all exceptional in different aspects.

I love SFAM too, but it's nothing compared to I&M or Awake.
The "classic" DT albums, IMO, is:
- When Dream & Day Unite
- Images & Words
- Live At The Marquee (live)
- Awake
- A Change of Seasons (EP)
- Probably 'Falling Into Infinity'

WDADU and FiI are totaly different from the others ... by "classic" I meant that these three albums have a consistent sound. They established that sound with Images, perfected it on Awake and ACoS, and lost it with FiI. Then they reached another consistent phase with Scenes, 6DoIT and ToT. Octavarium is not like anything they did before, just like FiI was. Their next album should be interesting again ...

Awake is my favorite mostly because it has a sound that is unique to this album. Songs like "Erotomania" and "6:00" are classics.

Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. Definitely not in the same league as SFAM, which is a solid five star album. IMHO of course.

It's just the 7th track. But Awake is really much better than Octavarium, that's a given.
