British Blues Boom Bands

The list includes some of the major R'n'B bands still active mid and late 60's (i.e. when the term actually meant 'rhythm and blues', rather than the castrated soulless soul of the current day pop charts), all the three goodfathers of British blues (Mayall, Korner and Davis), plus a few minor bands I saw (so apologies to those who remember other minor bands - but please list).

(While I'll always hear Tull's Stand Up as an example of the British blues boom scene, the majority of their record cataloggue isn't.)

Great insight from Jack Bruce on TV last week (on the previously mentioned Jazz Britannia part 2 programme), discussing why young British jazz musicians readily turned to rock and pop:

1. Big audiences.

2. "With Cream I and Ginger could play free jazz as a rhythm section, while Eric (Clapton) played the Ornette Coleman role. However, we didn't tell Eric that!"

I voted for Zeppelin but too be honest ive not heard of most of those bands except the obvious ones! Wow and Free now you dont ever hear them mentioned much nowdays.

I really should check out Pretty Things though

Kossoff left and then completely destroyed himself on drugs, Andy Fraser formed the Sharks with Chris Spedding (and lasted the first album, then what happened to him), Kirk and Rodgers did Bad Company (and wasn't there Box Of Frogs????). Paul Rodgers did that masterful  tribute album  Muddy Waters Blues at the end of the 80's - which proved to me Dave Gilmour was a good guitarist; (I'd long known jazz fusion guitarist Dave Gilmore was)

Reasons why  Free are coming back into vogue? Paul Rodgers fronting Queen.  Check out the stripped down blues of the Black Keys, whose vocalist keeps reminding me of Rodgers, and (a real long shot) perhaps the inclusion of Black Cat Bones (post-Kossoff and Kirk) track on the Legend Of A Mind sampler, but still  sounds so Free.
