Jean Luc hands downs. Are you kidding?! The guy's been playing the v since he was like 5 for crying out loud. Not to mention the work he's done with Stephan Grapelli(did I spell that right?). BTW, where is he here?! I know the man is mostly categorized in the fusion realm, but his work is so symphonic he has to be included here. If you're gonna put Brand X, Maha and Return To Forever here, you better include him too.

Sorry. But that's not Jerry Goodman on that album. I forget the name of the guy, but I saw Jeff on this tour with Jan (they opened for Jefferson Starship of all things). I think you're confusing this album with an album Jan and Jerry did right after they left Maha called "Like Children". Both played all the instruments.

My favorite violin moment is the Jerry Goodman's solo on One word. It is absolutely amazing. The whole Birds of Fire album is absolutely astonishing.

Pagani and Jobson were in two of my all-time favourite bands, PFM and UK.

I voted for Jean-Luc Ponty, though: he's probably more accomplished, and after my vote Ponty and Goodman both have 39 votes. Who will win?

Donald Lax in the Quella Vecchia Locanda debut. Most beautiful violin in this one imo.

Most accomplished? - I don't have the knowledge to answer that.

I'm sorry, but Charles O'Connor of Horslips is in a completely different league to any of those mentioned so far (including Nigel Kennedy who is the most overrated violinist I've ever heard).

Pagani is the best of those on the poll; Ponty is also very good.

Jean forgot to mention Didier Lockwood and the late Jorge Pinchevski. In fusion also Zbigniew Seifert.

Just to mention a little anecdote: Stephane Grapelli, the famous jazz violinist, who used to play with Django Reinhardt, gave his violin to Jean-Luc Ponty as a token of appreciation for him. Ponty himself passed it on to Dider Lockwood a few years later as a token of appreciation for him. Let's see where Lockwood will pass it when he thinks he has a suitable candidate.
