I went with a baker's baker's dozen. A baker's dozen is when you ask for a dozen and they throw in one more for free. A baker's baker's dozen is when you ask for a baker's dozen while giving the secret flour signal which involves snorting and sneezing-out flour, although cocaine can fool some. It would take hours to ensure the word "top" was accurate. Since I ran out of space before getting to Sabbath, I'll save them for a metal list.

We'll hear what David has to say, but for me... I would call Black Sabbath both "hard rock" and "heavy metal" based on the 1970 to 1975 period which I know best, and some other stuff, which also has doom metal qualities. Heavy metal being a kind of development of hard rock, music can be described as both. And geologically-speaking, heavy metals may be found in hard rocks. :) I felt confident in having Black Sabbath's debut as one of my choices, and would have with Paranoid and others too. |

Of the early albums, I find the debut and Paranoid to be on the borderline of Hard Rock and Metal, while the others are Metal to me. I also use to list Paranoid as my fave Metal BS album. |

Prog fans are the weirdest - they might as well go for In Through the Out Door (ok, which is half great), Coda and...
I'm trying to think if I have a mostly disliked non fan favorite like that as my personal favorite. I guess I do with Trans by Neil Young, but that's bacause I don't genuinely enjoy his "normal music". |

Same goes for Alice in Chains (Dirt) and Soundgarden (Batmotorfinger). Those are both closer to Heavy Rock bordering on Metal to me. |

^^ For me, Technical Ecstasy has a very strong personal nostalgic element. I do acknowledge the first six albums as absolute classics. I actually love all eight albums. In the case of Never Say Die, although it has always been my least favourite, I do find the change in sound to be quite interesting, and in more recent times, I am developing a greater love for the album, and especially the track Air Dance. As for the first six albums, I love them all pretty much equally.
