Procol Harum's greatest record was 1977's "Something Magic"

Gentle Giant's "The Missing Piece" is one of their very best albums....

Genesis-Trespass is better than any Genesis record before or after it...

Some of mine:

Tales is the Best Yes Album
Shine On > Echoes

A Momentary Lapse of Reason is a great record
Think of Me with Kindness is the best song Gentle Giant ever did
Mike Oldfield's Incantations is a 10/10 Record
'It' is a great album closer

Granted, most of these aren't super hot, but I'm sure many of you have some! (I'm looking at you Paul with your lack of VDGG love!)

Nice, I disagree with all your takes...Some of mine:

The Final Cut is a great record
Selling England By The Pound is boring
In The Court of The Crimson King is NOT the first prog album

To be honets, I like Leapse, but it has the worst track ever recorded by Pink Floyd, worse than A Spanish Piece
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I don't think this is a hot take in any way. Thumbs Up

Luciano Cilio's Dialoghi del Presente is the best Italian album I know. And I do know the classics...

Going with the contrarian nature of this thread I would highlight their album Three Cheers For The Broken Hearted also. It's the best sort of 'pop' album you can ever listen to. I love it!

Sure is, but it seems a lot of people do agree with this view (including me).

I agree witn Doug actually. PH, for me, don't have any outstanding albums but Something Magic is at least a prog album. Here I would expect it to have a higher rating.

Soft Machine's greatest album is "Seven".

The second Mahavishnu Orchestra album "Birds Of Fire" is a bit of a let down after their fantastic debut album "The Inner Mounting Flame".

Can't agree with you there. What about Shine On, Salty Dog, Home, Barricades?? All decent proto-prog!

SM doesn't succeed in the least as a prog album, not to mention that it takes away all the familiar Procol aspects.

I don't think that's highly debatable though I tend to disagree and say it's just as good Smile

The earlier Procol albums are sort of proto prog, but in Something Magic, you finally hear a mature, fully progressive sound....

Again, we'll have to agree to disagree on this....judging by the results, The Inner Mounting Flame was a hard act to follow, though many felt Birds Of Fire to be it's equal....it isn't

^ Sure,
Regarding PH, becoming more incessantly "progressive" does not equal more cohesive or focused.

Re Mahavishnu, I exactly pointed out that Flame is generally considered > than Birds, thus it is nowhere near a hot take. I, for one, just happen to like Birds just as much.

Probably not such an original prog-rock hot take: "Tormato" is indeed a great album.

For me it is a hot take, but there are quite a few people around here that love the album.
I find it to be quite uneven, half of it is unlistenable for me these days (and I own the album, bonus tracks remaster, I naively thought something good might be in the bonus songs, well, i was wrong... LOL).
The album opener is great, I've always liked that and the album closer stands above the rest as well, worth the money spent for these two songs i guess. Smile

Quite a hot portato for me as well, given the fact that I prefer Tales over this one
