I'm not sure why, but every time I listen to Mirage, I feel like a cigarette... BTW, the Goose is probably the best composed album from Camel. The re-recording is even better...

Mirage, if only for Lady Fantasy and the Nimrodel suite.

I like them all, but Monmadness sounds like sheer perfection to me. Even "minor" tracks, like Spirit Of The Water, are fabulous.

1) Snow Goose
2) Moonmadness 3) Mirage 4) Camel As much as I care for all 4, I think Snow Goose stands out. By the way, I don't believe I've heard the new version yet but I've been reading it might even be better than the original. Guess I'll have to listen... |

I always liked the fact that the music was inspired by this story. I read it a while ago and I'm not entirely sure it changed my perception of the album, but I very much dig the themes and the imagery. It's sort of cinematic and in my mind it's like listening to Garofano Rosso by BMS or some Goblin albums. |

I'm not sure I would go that far because Mirage is really great but TSG is definitely the best of their 70s albums imo. Moonmadness is very good but aside from Lunar Sea it doesn't have much of the "wow" factor for me. The Snowgoose has that in spades.

I'm possibly a bit biased because I saw them live in 1975, and was at one of the few gigs when they played TSG in its entirety to promote the album... my 'by a mile' comment you can probably take with a pinch of salt, all things considered.
