How have you reached that conclusion, but if so, it's quite a moon madness to me. Edited by David_D - February 09 2024 at 14:49 |

quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

I'm going mostly by polls and ratings on here and ratings on rate your music and maybe some other places as well.

If only to look at the ratings on RYM and PA, Mirage is very clearly the most popular, and it wouldn't suprise me if we haven't seen the best voting for Mirage here yet. |

Well, I just looked it up and saw five polls between MM and Mirage and MM won three and two others where they tied. Plus MM is beating Mirage in this one so far.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Anyway, until some years ago, The Snow Goose was the most appreciated Camel album.

all the birds are leaving, But how can they know, it's time for them to go? Before the winter fire, I will still be dreaming, I have no thought of time. |

When talking about Mirage, it looks in some ways to me similar to and probably at least partly inspired by Khan's Space Shanty, but I find Space Shanty not so little better - even I haven't listened that much to Mirage.

It seems like it used to be just like Fragile was the most appreciated Yes album.

I think some people don't fully understand that the Snow Goose is an adaption of a novella by Paul Gallico and that, in order to actually appreciate it fully, you HAVE to have read that story. It tells a story without words, and that's incredible. The only vaguely comparable piece I can think of is Peter and the Wolf, which still has to use a narrator to link the instrumental sections.

Thought this was an old poll that was bumped up as has been the case recently. Pretty sure it's been done before but maybe I'm wrong. Anyway always going to be The Snow Goose which rivals Wakeman's Six Wives Of Henry VIII for best instrumental prog rock album. Mirage is a perfect album but I'm not convinced it ever added anything new to the prog canon. Moonmadness is decent but for me slightly below those. Not sure if I even own the debut or have properly listened to it.

Voted Moonmadness but Mirage is also close for me. I always thought Snow Goose was a bit boring at times and I didnt care for the short song motif even if they blended together.

Snow Goose. Love that album from first time I heard it. Moonmadness would be second. It does have my all-time favorite from Camel, Lunar Sea.

^ the first time I ever heard Camel was 'Lunar Sea' on Alan 'Fluff' Freeman's Saturday Afternoon Rock Show on BBC radio 1. He was a massive prog fan and the show who ran for about 5 years between 1973 and 1978. The good ole days.
