Does anybody have any idea why DE LORIANS is listed under L in the database? I was trying to look for it under D where it should be but then it occurred to me to try L and there it was I knew it was here since i wrote a review for the debut album. BTW i think it's ridiculous as well that definite / indefinite article bands in foreign languages are also categorized with the following word. This is an English site. For those who don't know the language then how are they to know a certain word is a definite article? The DE part of DE LORIANS is not either a definite or indefinite article (as far as i know) and even if it is how is anyone to know that? I vote the band be placed in the D listing |

Thanks Mayer, I've done a few corrections on albums' pages, but I think the link between those two artists' pages is clear. It is in the biography. Also, the personnel and style seems to be different.

Just a question. I was trying to find info on Rick Wakeman: Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (1974) which I thought was his 2nd Studio, after Six Wives... but it's not there?? Is it filed somewhere else instead?

Do you know, I never even noticed that bit! I was so puzzled trying to fathom out what was going on with the timings that I didn't bother to read the rest of the page! I had no idea that SACDs and CDs sometimes had different timings for the same tracks, having never owned a SACD disc player or purchased one of these discs, but I just found a thread on the Steve Hoffman Music Forums about this very issue, and guess what is one of the albums that gets mentioned there? ![]() Ambra - Child of the Universe - Many tracks have longer versions on the SACD Steve Gadd - The Gadd Gang - CD has original mixes, SACD has 2007 remixes The Kinks - Everybody's in Show Business - longer versions on several tracks on the SACD Don McClean - American Pie - tracks 9 & 10 order reversed on SACD RPWL - World Through My Eyes - Very different track times, possible SACD stereo are 5.1 downmixes I don't understand any of the technical reasons why this happens, but I guess there must indeed be some reason or other why they had to shorten several of the tracks on the SACD layer, even though I read on Wikipedia that these layers can hold up to 110 minutes without DST compression. So, case finally closed. ![]() Thanks for taking the time to look into this, and sorry to have been such a pain! ![]() ![]() |

David, I've listened to all versions of this album in the last few days: original CD, SACD and modern streaming versions. I can confirm that all timings you see are correct. The timings currently on PA are from the original CD version (I've updated them yesterday). The streaming versions are cutting tracks at different spots (vs. the original CD), that's why if you add timings for tracks 1 to 10, you get pretty much the same total on both the original CD and streaming versions. Now for the SACD, I'm not sure why all tracks are a bit shorter, but my guess is that the audio quality is SO high that they were lacking space. There is this note on the Discogs page: the track times for the SACD layer vary considerably from those printed on the release. The tracks on the SACD layer are all a slightly different mix (shorter than the cd tracks) to make sure all could be included on the SACD layer. Good album, by the way...

^ Well done indeed for digging that bit of info out Julien!
![]() I'm also still confused by the deviations of the timings of a few other tracks in both our own and discogs listings from those in the currently available streams of the album (eg the first two tracks, 'Sleep' and 'Start The Fire'). It's also a bit strange that the discogs page for the standard CD issue (and also the Gentle Art Of Music 2013 reissue of it, as well as the master page for the album) has track 4 'Roses' listed at only 5:39 instead of the 6:36 of the CD layer of the hybrid SACD. Several other tracks are shown on discogs with different timings in the SACD layer from those of the normal CD layer, which also seems strange to a simple fellow like me who doesn't understand all the technical stuff lol! As far as I know there weren't any re-recordings of these early tracks done by the band especially for the SACD version of the album, or for the currently available streams, so the whole thing just seems a bit of a mess to me. ![]() Edit: The currently available streams of that 'Start The Fire' live album from 2005 - both on YouTube and Spotify - don't include the full studio version of 'New Stars Are Born' as a bonus track, as documented on the discogs and PA pages for the album, so it would seem that the band's current record label, Gentle Art Of Music, have definitely decided that the full piece is more appropriately included these days as a bonus track in streams of the 2005 'World Through My Eyes' studio album rather than the 'Start The Fire' live album. That certainly makes perfect sense to me upon reflection, but it potentially leads to confusion for anyone else visiting the old discogs and PA pages for the album and comparing the track listings there with those that they are seeing and listening to on Spotify or YouTube.
I don't envy you guys at all, trying to keep this website up to date with things like this going on behind your backs lol! Edited by yam yam - December 21 2022 at 18:21 |

^ David, I discovered something here: https://www.rpwl.net/music/start-the-fire/
So on this 2005 live album, there is the full version of "New Stars Are Born" (12:40) as a bonus studio track. On the original studio album, it was an abbreviated version (7:04 on CD, 5:08 on SACD). And I guess they choose to replace the abbreviated version by the full version on recent digital releases (such as the Youtube one). So all is OK. ![]() |

A bit of a strange anomaly on another RPWL album for you guys to investigate...
'World Through My Eyes' (2005): https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=6931. It was released on CD and also SACD, with a bonus track 'New Stars Are Born' on the SACD version, and we have the time for this track as 7:00. If you look at the discogs page for the SACD version, it gives two entries for this track: Firstly as CD-11 with a time of 7:04, then a bit further down the page as SACD-11 with a time of 5:07. All the YouTube and Spotify streams for the track that I looked at come in at around 12:40, which seems to be roughly equivalent to the two discogs entries added together plus a bit more, so I reckon both discogs and us have got this wrong as things stand atm. Here are some examples of streams of the track: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nxLUk5vEJHAFN9p300CHAKtfA5UIWDN1c (the full album on YouTube Music). I'll leave it with you to ponder what might be the reason for this discrepancy, since discogs is usually pretty reliable on these matters. Edit: Several of the track times for this album that both we and discogs have differ from those in the streams of the album that currently exist on YouTube and Spotify - some by more than 10 seconds in our own listing - and discogs is out by almost a whole minute for track 4 'Roses' - so I'd be tempted to redo the whole lot based on either the YouTube or Spotify timings (which correlate with each other to within 1 second).
