I'm still struggling a bit but at least I managed to scrape ten albums together this time (I was really hoping I wouldn't have to include We Can't Dance though...)

1. Frank Zappa - Make A Jazz Noise Here
2. Frank Zappa - The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life
3. Robert Fripp & The League Of Crafty Guitarists - Show Of Hands
4. Ozric Tentacles - Strangeitude
5. Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle
6. Earthworks - All Heaven Broke Loose
7. Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
8. Al Di Meola - Kiss My Axe
9. Al Di Meola - World Sinfonia
10. Genesis - We Can't Dance

Swans - White Light From the Mouth of Infinity
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Sonny Sharrock - Ask the Ages
Carcass - Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
Hassan Hakmoun & Adam Rudolph - Gift of the Gnawa

well, I haven't given up, at least prog-related.
Coming up with albums from whatever genre is easy. Sticking with prog & prog related is a welcome challenge, with prog lists I may find out about albums I do not know. Smile

^ I couldn't make a prog top ten for this year filled with music love - or even like. But I do consider everything on my list as more genuinely progressive in "spirit" than Marillion was in 1991

More of a factual thing really. The  music on Marillion's 1991-outing is prog-related or maybe even "prog" - but not very progressive music.

Well, with live albums and compilations I don't have too much trouble to get to ten... (trying to privilege studio albums though):

Twelfth Night - Collector's Item
Ozric Tentacles - Strangeitude
Banco del mutuo soccorso - Da qui messere si domina la valle (1991 re-recordings of Banco & Darwin)
Frank Zappa - The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life
Cardiacs - Songs For Ships And Irons
Pascal Comelade - Ragazzin' the Blues
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Now - Spheres
Camel - Dust and Dreams
Pendragon - The World
Magellan - Hour of Restoration; hmm, maybe not really top ten...
Savatage - Streets, A Rock Opera then?
I hesitate to put Yes - Union in my top ten...

The razamataz is a pain in the bum

^ It's been a while for me too that I listened to that album (the only one I know of them). I thought you might mention Savatage in your list...?

My original comment was more of a self-defense thing... as I've "complained" earlier that seemingly everyone else posted lists filled with new wave and post-punk troughout the 1980's - while I was trying to "keep it real". And entering the 1990's I've given up trying myself.

1990 was a tough year for prog, I could not come up with 10 albums, but 1991 was a much better year. Tongue
