I must have misunderstood this topic, I thought we were contrasting HIGH and LOWS in artists careers. Maybe I should not have quoted you and disagree but some of your choices for LOWS make little to no sense to me, especially with artists I think have never released a really bad, unlistenable album (Pain of Salvation, OSI, Beardfish, Tool, Haken, Spock's Beard, Caligula's Horse, Frost). How is Rush's 2112 the low point of their career? Amused to Death the worst? Radio KAOS and Ca Ira (whatever that was, I could not get behind at all)? Opeth - Orchid as a low?! I don't get it, what's wrong with it? And last thing I will never understand - the bashing of Dream Theater's debut album. I've always thought it was a great album. The low/worst of DT is The Astonishing (that incoherent mess of an album).

And no, I do not dislike the albums I pinpointed as 'worst' for the bands you mentioned in your previous reply (well, most of them). For example, I think WDADU is a good album with awesome instrumentals but weak vocals, therefore a pretty good debut for Dream Theater. And yes, I agree that bands like C-Horse, Mastodon, OSI, Haken, Spock, Flower Kings, Frost*, etc.; (you named them well) never released a bad album, but when I 'rank' their catalogue the records that I mentioned come off at the bottom of the list, that's it. As for '2112', I have to admit I never understood its appeal; Unfortunately, it is an album that for me encapsulates all the things prog is ridiculed for, and I find it mostly unlistenable (okay, okay, I will back off, let's call it unenjoyable, maybe tedious); And this is entirely a problem of myself, as I find early Rush very hard to listen to without cringing hard. I always found '2112's title track patchy (it has fabulous moments from all three players individually, but does not do much for me overall) and the shorter songs on side two absolutely boring and uninspired. With this cleared out, I can say I much prefer 'Caress of Steel', for example, or even 'Power Windows'. Hope this clears out the post and it doesn't come off that I am trying to enrage some users by picking their favorite albums as my least favorite ones. Maybe I misunderstood the task.

Talk Talk Worst album: The first (The Party's Over - how nicely paradoxical a title for a first album though) Best album: The last (Laughing Stock) Actually their last three are all super awesome, however find another band of which the first album is worst and the last is best! (Of course this will be all too easy if a band has only two or three albums.)

Being able to name the worst out of 23,144 Tangerine Dream albums is surely impressive!

It's highly unlikely that an album worse than that has ever been released by a band featured on PA. Naming Rick Wakeman's worst is surely harder.

I agree with some of your choices (Sieges Even - Step is still a good album, so is POS's Scarsick and FW's debut album) Ulver's Flowers of Evil is one of my favorite 2020 albums.

Hi Cristi! Sieges Even was hard to choose between The Art Of navigating By Stars and A sense Of Change, Steps its ok but sound to similar to Watchtower and the vocals of Franz Herde are difficult to enjoy Enslaved its a very consistent band, bloodheimn its ok but prefer their other albums

I don't listen to Enslaved, the extreme vocals ruin it for me. Although i do listen to a few extreme metal bands, Enslaved is not one of them (although instrumentally they are interesting). I've just seen In the Woods (sorry), I don't think they ever released anything bad either. |

Hi Cristi!! The extreme vocals are difficult to get in but the clean vocals are supreme!!, try Axioma Ethica Odini and Rittirrrr, if you like In The Woods.. their debut and "Heart Of the Ages" they also have extreme voices, Jan Transeth screams like possesed (similar to burzum), their last two albums are ok for me, but in my opinion they lost the magic loosing the vocals of Jan I Agree with you regarding the band In The Woods

Yes, the early In the Woods is experimental black metal, but I like that, vocals included. The extreme vocals of Enslaved though, I do not like, and I did listen to a few of their albums, I gave them a chance. |
