Straight forward enough - pick a prog band and select, in your opinion, their best album and the one you least like.

I'll start....

Genesis: A Trick of the Tail - Calling All Stations

[/QUOTE]

Interesting. I always used to regard Stationary Traveller as one of their four weakest albums (with Breathless, I Can See Your House From Here and The Single Factor), but repeated listens have completely changed my opinion.
I now rate it up there with Nude and Rajaz, just behind the incredible trilogy from Mirage to Moonmadness.

Incidentally, Moonmadness has just been released on 180g vinyl.

If you have a really good deck (anything from a Linn LP12 upwards to a PT Anniversary or a Nottingham Analogue Annalog or a Voyd or similar) the sound quaity is simply unbelievable - far better than CD. The best £23 I've ever spent.

Blah! In The Court Of The Crimson King is SO over rated. I love the album, but come on! Anything done with Bill Bruford, John Wetton, Tony Levin, Adrian Belew, is better by a large margin. Even Islands with Boz Burell is a FAR more interesting listen.

The first one is the poorest for me too, Tom, but still decent!

I don't think it's really fair in this thread to post bands that have barely a handful of albums lol! I mean, if we get a band that has two releaases, well by that logic one is good (best) and one is bad (worst) lol! What if they're both good?!

My problem picking most of these is that with bands with large discographies I don't have a lot of the bad albums (Yes, Genesis, Tull), and with bands with a small discography I don't feel like calling one of four albums bad, typically I usually think they're all good.

Univers Zero - Ceux Du Dehors / Rhythmix

(and I do like Rhythmix)

Sorry I have no interest whatsoever in vinyl. I hate it.

I feel exactly the same way about CDs/MP3s etc!

WTF ?? Confused

The first one is the poorest for me too, Tom, but still decent!

I don't think it's really fair in this thread to post bands that have barely a handful of albums lol! I mean, if we get a band that has two releaases, well by that logic one is good (best) and one is bad (worst) lol! What if they're both good?!

The self titled is still a good album, yes.

I haven't investigated many full discographies, studio album wise, so those were the bands I could fairly do the best and worst with.

A lot of mentions already for music I agree with.  Some not mentioned yet:

Queen= Queen II/The Game(I gave up buying Queen records after "Another One Rides the Bus")
Supertramp- Crime of the Century/Free as a Bird
Starcastle- Fountains of Light/Real to Reel
Spock's Beard- V/Feel Euphoria
not on PA, but a let down all the same was Angel's Helluva Band to the awful On Earth As It Is In Heaven

Dream Theater: Images And Words (as much as I'm trying not to show by its popularity) > Either Falling Into Infinity or Black Clouds
Anathema: Weather Systems > Serenades
Textures: Drawing Circles > Polars (Although its title track will still be my favourite)
Devin Townsend: Infinity > Physicist
Devin Townsend Project: Deconstruction > Addicted
Arena: Immortal ? > Pepper's Ghost
Ayreon: The Dream Sequencer > Flight Of The Migrator (wow, total contrast between "double" albums!)
Pagan's Mind: Enigmatic Calling > God's Equation

Iron Maiden? I'm hard-pressed to pick a favorite, though it'd be either Brave New World or Seventh Son. Least favorite would definitely be Fear of the Dark.

Islands and Lizard are better than KC's first two, Starless and Bible Black, and life tons of their other stuff.

Just sayin'

^Very debatable, there... Lizard I can agree with, but Islands... Not even close to the first in my book, or SABB for that matter, and Red and LTIA soar above the lot forever.

But that's the problem with subjectivity Wink
