Hardly a monopoly of progheads, IMHO. Plenty of punkheads or rapheads feel the same way

TBH I don't think prog rock fans are snobbish enough.
Personally: not only do I despise all music that isn't prog, I also despise all prog that isn't RIO / avant, and all RIO / avant that isn't made by dedicated Marxists, and all RIO / avant that's made by the wrong kind of Marxists, and all RIO / avant that's made by the right kind of Marxists, but doesn't feature the bassoon. It makes life so much simpler...

It's all a matter of personal opinions. Some think we are great, smart people, other think the opposite, just like we think the same about others.

I have found prog fans in the main to be non snobby. In fact compared to say Dylan fans or classical fans they are the salt of the earth guv.

I find that often the worst offenders Avant, Zehul and Krautrock fans tbh, I like all those genres, i'm just a fan of music. I love prog, pop, hip hop, folk, classical, jazz, Death Metal etc etc. If you don't like something just don't listen to it and don't go on a rampage trying to tear it down for people who do. I'll never understand people who go out of their way to hate on particular albums, some people just listen to music actively looking for something to dislike. What can you do? I knew a guy who refused to listen to any alternative rock because he didn't want to "associate with alternative rock fans," and refused to listen to anything I recommended him, including Camel, Hatfield, National Health because he said he couldn't enjoy anything unless he discovered it "organically." The irony was that he always raved about how great Egg and Dave Stewart was... the irony, dropped that clown as a friend.
Just accept that lots of people are ok with just being casual music fans and listening to whatever's popular or easy to listen to, nothing wrong with that. We all hear music differently and we all listen to music looking for different stuff out of it. Just appreciate this gift from the heavens and don't be "that guy."

Hm. Then it would seem no one has a monopoly on deciding what music is. Doesn't stop some people here from trying...
(For the record, I would have gone with that definition too, but I was being facetious, hehe)

Each human is at a slightly different level of consciousness , we all question the universe from a slightly different perspective based on experience and what we are taught , prog fans seem to open up their mind to an infinite field of possibility and aren't limited at all by other people's opinions, the short answer is they tend to have a higher level of awareness and follow their gut instincts rather than what they are told to understand by the big corporate machine. Prog fans will dig deep even go into who produced the album who mixed it what equipment the artist is using, no other genre of fans does this which is why... we are smarter and often considered 'snobs'. Feel free to disagree with me but I've pondered this question for decades and I believe I`m on to something

People in other genres listen to music and deep dive the same way many prog fans do, especially metal fans, the type of music you listen to has no bearing on how smart you are and many of us listen to tons of music outside the prog sphere, including more simple music like pop and folk. You're being "that guy" right now with this comment.

TBH, metal fans are usually way more intolerable. I've been involved with plenty of bands from a variety of genres, and the most issues were with personalities in metal bands. Prog bands it usually comes down to simple disagreements in which style to emulate LOL.

I've been a prog fan since I was a teenager, so, are you saying that I've been going senile since the age of 16? Probably explains a lot... |
