I havenīt ever been very keen to discuss whatīs prog and whatīs not, but anyway, if we go to that very puritan thinking (whatīs here quite common) whatīs prog, there are not many fullblood prog albums on this list. I think only Alan Parsons, Camel, Curved Air, ELP, Enid, GG, Hatfield, Jade Warrior, KC, Renaissance & Yes -albums can be said prog albums. Spooky Tooth & Wishbone Ash are not even put prog category as bands in progarchives.
One thatīs really missing from these brit prog polls is folk prog: Comus debut really should have been here. Edited by Mortte - January 24 2020 at 02:05 |

I already posted a Prog-Folk poll late last year. Jethro Tull won the poll by a wide margin. I also posted a second Prog-Folk poll which didn't include Jethro Tull.

Pentangle won my second Prog-Folk poll with seven votes, but I'm sorry to say Comus didn't receive any votes at all.

Are you kidding? I love take a pebble. Tank would be a much better argument to prove there was anything "bad" on it and I even like that one.

I'm afraid that this could only be a contest if you omitted ItCotCK.

This. I would also add This Was to other favorites, a great blues based album, with some great guitar playing by Mick Abrahams.

Yes, I had a feeling King Crimson were going to win this poll by a wide margin - and deservedly so - and that turned out to be the case, although I don't think it would have gone down too well if I'd deliberately omitted King Crimson from the poll on the grounds that their debut album is just too good and it's no contest.

I like Comus too. I gave their classic "First Utterance" album four stars in a recent review.

King Crimson. Pink Floyd comes next. I agree that Comus would have been a definite consideration for the best and definitely comes close.

I do like Take a Pebble and obviously I was being a bit tongue in cheek although for me it slows the album down too much after a strong start. I love The Barbarian and Lucky Man but as you suggest , Tank does meander a bit. I would also add that I'm not a fan of the 3rd part of Three Fates although the first two bits are great. To my ears there is a heck of a lot of 'noodling' here (although musically this a completely meaningless term) but perception can be a funny thing. BSS is by a long way my favourite ELP album and many see that as a lot of 'noodling' ( I presume to mean aimless passages designed just to show off instrumental virtuosity)
