No. Zeppelin made only five albums great run, from first to Houses Of Holy. You´re really thinking Masters Of Reality, Vol.4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath & Sapotage are not interested?

^Are you kidding....Physical Graffiti is an excellent double album....that makes 6........and even Presence has more going on than those later Sabbath LP.s,
but then I suppose ham fisted doomy sludge heavy metal appeals to some more than well crafted hard rock with variety.

After Paranoid I moved on to bands that knew how to play.

^I think you know Physical was supposed to be only one album. Then they made some songs longer to make it double. It can be heard. Presence is really enjoyable album, not as great as those first five.

I would have to agree with Dr. Wu and completely disagree with you, Mortte. Physical Graffiti represents Zeppelin at their zenith. The album has everything from full-blown prog to down-home blues, from metal to funk to dreamy acoustic. I would say only Vol. IV is better, but not by much.

I sometimes don't understand the adoration for Signals either. The Fountain of Lamneth outclasses everything, bar Subdivisions on Signals IMO. (Subdivisions may qualify as my overall favourite all time Rush song.....this week)

Rush no contest.  That batch was INCREDIBLE, every last one of them, and they progressed so greatly throughout the period, making such a variety of great music, but all incredibly worthy.  

I love Sabbath as well, and there are some killer albums in there, but not quite at the rarified air level of Rush. And their best albums were the first two with Dio.

I'm not a huge Sabbath fan, but I count as a primate, and well, while tastes are subjective, I am inclined to disagree. I generally don't like to make best sort-of claims about such things, but my favourites are from 1970 to 1975. As said elsewhere, I do try to remain agnostic on various matters, and if compelling evidence or a very compelling argument arises for the veracity of such claims, then my opinion is open to change.

Actually, I know a lot of Sabbath fans who agree. For one, RJD has the greatest voice in metal, a definite upgrade over Ozzy's nasal wail.  Also Tony Iommi lays out his best solos on those later albums (although his riffs were more iconic on the earlier ones).  And above all, Geezer Butler finally emerges as one of the greatest bassists in rock history.  His bass lines on those albums rival those of the likes of Lee/Squier/Entwistle/Harris.  As great as early Sabbath was, there's really no topping Heaven and Hell/Mob Rules.

Well, they do have a very different sound to them. It's almost like two different groups, even aside from having a different vocalist.

I would use the word "nonsense", but that wouldn't be polite. There is no way in Heaven or Hell that Dio can be considered an "upgrade" to 1970s Ozzy. 

Having seen both Ozzy with Sabbath on the 1974 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Tour and Dio with Sabbath on the '82 Black and Blue Tour, there really isn't a comparison. When Ozzy sang songs (and I'll just give singular instances from a few albums) like their titular "Black Sabbath", "Hand of Doom", "Into the Void", "Under the Sun", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" or "Megalomania", there was an inherent malice, an evil presence that was as much Ozzy's shriek and snarl as were the vicious riffs Tony Iommi was spitting out on every song. It's what every metal band named after guts or phlegm or menstruation or whatever has aspired to sound like thereafter, but which just sounds like silly Halloween growls with sped-up Sabbath riffs.

Dio? Never was scary. He was like Scott Evil: "You're quasi-evil. You're semi-evil. You're the margarine of evil. You're the Diet Coke of evil. Just one calorie."
