Boston, Styx, Kansas, Foreigner, Journey.....take a dash of this, a little of that, toss it together, get into the studio - BANG!  FM hits.....I bet there's an FM "classic rock" radio station playing tunes from each of those five bands right this very moment.  
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

I’d stick Jefferson Starship (‘79 through ‘84) with this lot. though I never went for Boston or Foreigner.

I appreciate them for how they sounded, a band that showed how crucial production is, and Scholz though simplistic and cheesy made some real contributions to tech guitar.

I agree. I think also those two first Magnum albums are better than that first Boston-album. I still got those, also some their later albums in the cassette, havenīt listened long time, have to someday.

About this thread I really understand why Boston canīt make it into pa because it seems to be hard these days even full progbands. On the other hands Iīve seen some those suggestions-threads where somebody has just suggested new band and almost immediately some collaborator has answered "added". No understanding why it is so, but anyway I have been very lazy to make reviews lately, so I donīt care.

I think Tom deserves far more recognition for what he achieved on the first Boston album - an album he basically made by himself in his basement. In that regard he is forerunner to the hordes of bedroom musicians roaming the earth as we speak.
Does that make the music prog rock? Not really but he did a 'Prince' whilst the real Prince still was trying to cultivate facial hair. Pioneering a new way of compiling an album? That is more like it.

I agree, their first two albums are great. I also have their greatest hits compilation that have the highlights of their career,  worth getting because beyond the 70s, their albums are quite uneven (if you ask me).

I believe you havenīt forgotten Oldfield with his first album Tubular Bells (which I find much greater than Boston first). Yes, Oldfield recorded it in the Manor studios, but anyway there was that time 16 track tape recorder, so I believe the technique has been quite the same as Tom had in his basement studio. But of course I respect also Bostonīs first album.
