harsh man.. though not a fan at all of this period of KC.. I'd merely say everthing between the two bookends is worth a pass. The start and finish is at least mildly interesting. Still... if not for Raff putting this on occasionally.. I could die a happy man and not miss a thing if I never heard the album again. Love is blind... Raff forgives me for my Willie Nelson obsession.. I forgive her mid era KC obsession.
Don't and never have heard anything really all that special about it myself. At least the following two had at least a song or two that got a big hell yeah from me.. but this one left me.. cold and sterile.. like KC could be before getting a healthy shot of life and energy with Belew.
but that is surely just me.. and a few of my crew of forum malcontents

It's actually "Book of Saturday" not "Saturdays." While that is my choice I don't think it's weak at all. I quite like it but it's the least perfect song on a perfect album if I had to chose one.

The Talking Drum for me - but it is rather churlish to pick out lesser tracks on such a quality album. I much prefer the 'postiive' viewpoint of more recent threads.

What do you mean with against your musical intuition? It flows pretty natural to me, after some listens, that is. |
Well, intuition is hard to describe. I'm not generally against harsh contrasts but whenever Wetton sings "Easy Money" it seems to me that the song grinds to a halt and has to be started again with some effort. Drums and percussion don't seem really well coordinated to me; I feel drawn to either one or another in most moments but not to how they work together. Also much of the instrumental part between about the middle and 3/4 of the song doesn't fit with what for me is the main mood of the song, although it gets there later. That said, some of this is also original and I appreciate it as a bit of a challenge. It's not that I don't like it. I just decided I rather play the game and vote for something instead of taking the easy way out and saying "all are good, I don't vote".

"Least favorite track" doesn't really compute in this case for me.
In fact, that doesn't compute in most cases for me. I'm not someone who feels that track quality varies on most albums.

Think of LTIA 1 & 2 as "chamber metal" ... if that helps at all. If not, Toronto 2015 (downloadable from dgmlive.com) starts off with a rollicking live Larks 1. A bit shorter and punchier than the studio original.

| I agree completley with you about part 1, but I really love part 2. It may be noisy and crazy, but I do hear the music in it and I love it.

easily talking drum. Pointless noodling. It doesn't detract from the album but it doesn't add much, i usually tune out when it plays without even knowing it
