Well, IQ is the only one I love out of these bands. The album Subterranea is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion.

You're familiar with Saga's best (earliest) work, and you've been listening to King's X, as you said in the thread upstairs...

...so, yes, I'll also cast a vote for IQ.

The album you want to listen to immediately, front to back, with special attention to the lyrics, is Ever (1993). A modern classic!

Then go back and listen to The Wake from 1985. Living Proof  (1986) is a fine live document of that era, too.

This may be the first ever time I've voted for IQ in a poll!

Three pretty different bands. I vote IQ as they're the only band out of the three I like.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

IQ is the best of these. However, I strongly recommend Saga's Worlds Apart which never failed me during a few decades.

Voted King's X; I have "Ever," "Tales From the Lush Attic," Subterranea," and "Dark Matter." I like "Dark Matter" but on the others the music doesn't overcome the vocals, which I find annoying. King's X, on the other hand, has a lot more albums that I really like. I have not heard anything by IQ after "Dark Matter" and I've read great reviews, so it's possible I'd change my mind after hearing them. Not a Saga fan.

Have to go with Saga for the consistency of their overall career. Would have been IQ, but their early albums are not great and sound dated. Love IQs last 4 or 5 albums, but Saga started off strong nd finished strong.
A GREAT YEAR FOR PROG!!!

Judging from your Avatar, I would guess you would get the most out of IQ.  They are essential Prog listening.  It depends on where your interests are, though, and they might be moving to something a little different.  TBH, I know nothing about Saga, but I have a few King's X.  They are an excellent hard rock trio, nothing symphonic about them.  Even though the musicianship is of high quality, they don't do music just to show off their chops - they play for what the song demands.
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

Personally, I don't think that you could go wrong with any of these 3 bands.  I am somewhat partial to trios that play hard rock though, so I cast a vote for Dug, Ty and Jerry.  They are also the only one of these three bands i have had the pleasure of seeing live.

I should have posted this in General Music Discussions. Posting it here pretty much ensured a runaway win for IQ. I listed to Dark Matter a couple of times and liked it a lot, but so far I haven't been able to get into anything else by them. I tried The Road of Bones but wasn't getting into it. I used to have Worlds Apart by Saga on Cassette and liked it, and recently have discovered Silent Knight and like it even more(very good all the way through). I listened to Gretchen Goes to Nebraska by King's X on youtube and it kicked my ass. Those guitars man they were jamming.

So idk, maybe I'll give IQ another chance.

Well, here's a vote for King's X. I've never cared for the other two, personally.

King's X is a kickass band. All three bands are great, for different reasons.

If you love Gretchen, don't hesitate to hear the first one, Out of the Silent Planet, and the third album Faith Hope Love

With IQ, listen to Ever
