Putting aside all the corruption and other nonsense of the Olympic committee and such, anyone pay attention to the Olympics?
I usually will put it on some, but mute the sound and listen to music while watching. Enjoy the different sports that are not typically mass marketed and do not see very often and the drama plus emotion that may occur during some of the competition. For most, I would think, this is their moment to shine or fail after training for 4 years. Curious if anyone keeps up with it.

Opening ceremonies? Volleyball? Yeah, no.
I'll take some judo though, and gymnastics, marathon, decathlon - Edited by Atavachron - August 07 2016 at 01:23 |

Nope. Would rather watch the local high school/college sports, hockey and football mostly.
I do enjoy figure skating when I happen to catch them. Edited by Finnforest - August 07 2016 at 07:11 |

pretty much same here... I always found the Winter Games to be far more interesting than the Summer games. |

I'll ignore the powder puff personality pieces from NBC and all the major sports that have no reason to be there (tennis, golf, basketball, etc). I'll pick and choose the stuff I don't see for 4 years, archery, volleyball, swimming & the like. As a Brit living in the USA I do find the myopic focus on the US athletes frustrating. Yes I know there is a wonderful girl from Iowa, whose mother had to sacrifice to get her to the Olympics, in third but who won the bloody race?

![]() and you hit the nail on the head of the real turn off for me of the summer games... the proliferation and focus of major sports (and professional players) that simply shouldn't be there. Losing what should be the focus.. sports you only really see every 4 years.. but people who truly do bust their asses to have this one moment in the sun... instead.. saturation of how many dunks and ass kicking the basketball team threw down on the Chinese. yawn... |

I watched the last half of the U.S women's soccer victory over France yesterday, and then about 5 minutes of U.S. v. China in basketball, yawned, and went on to do other things. I probably won't watch again.

Nope. Except for the gross water thing they warned the athletes about. I'll hear how many medals Canada's got no matter where I am though.
Fun fact: Canada advertises number of medals on the news/in newspapers over what kind of medal. So we'll see "Canada wins first medal!!" on the front page but will have to turn to page 11 to see what kind of medal it was. Edited by HemispheresOfXanadu - August 07 2016 at 11:36 |

She was amazing indeed, fun to watch. Enjoyed the gymnastics last night and the swimming/diving events. I won't go near the basketball, tennis, or golf events as the pros make those boring and should not be in the games. Never understood beach volleyball getting in as an Olympic event, other than the obvious visual reasons... I guess there are number of head scratching events that get in via some back getting scratched somewhere in the IOC. But all that crap aside, I still will watch some of the classic events with the sound muted to avoid sappy USA media stories while listening to prog on my headphones.
