Oh, and: Art Zoyd?? The only band with five albums on my list... I've seen one further on Nogbad's list but was that all?
I was generally happy about how my favourites were doing, but this...??

Hmmm...29 people does not make for a reliable poll, even on a site as incestuously close as PA.

two Art Zoyds made my list but I deliberately tried to limit the number from each band.

Oh, absolutely. 50 or so would've been pretty great, but this isn't far behind the kind of numbers they had in 2008 and 2009, so it's not awful.

Disappointing because there are no post-1990 (or post-1981) albums in the top 20? Yeah. It's interesting- one of the general results of this poll in comparison with the earlier ones isn't unexpected- a pretty significant drop in modern metal and heavy stuff, when Dream Theater, Opeth, Tool and Porcupine Tree used to be very strongly represented (In Absentia was in the top 10 in 2008). But it seems with those bands dropping away, they haven't really been replaced by other modern bands, and so the performance of modern bands in these polls has seemingly lessened over time.
Of course I'm just saying all of this based on my impressions, I haven't actually gone through and found the numbers to back me up here.

Okay, I went and got the numbers, which basically confirm what I thought. Just 16% of the top 100 was released post-1990, compared to 25% in 2009. While a lot of the albums are the same, the emphasis was definitely much heavier on metal in 2009:

I think the most interesting thing is that Anglagard's Hybris, which is no. 18 in the top prog list, only made it to 86 on the 2009 list and didn't make the top 100 at all in the 2016 list.

Interesting point. Does that make CTTE the least-objectionable prog masterpiece? Because I had five Yes albums on my list ahead of it, yet it made it to a number of lists and notably, to a number of top-ten rankings. Whereas DSOTM wasn't even on my list - it's an album that I couldn't care less if I never hear again, and it appears that other top ten albums arouse mixed feelings - but CTTE everyone seems to like a fair amount, even if it isn't their top pick. I'm still in shock that GFTO was close to 200, yet the other five of Yes' best six run of albums were all ranked 25 or higher. How did that one get left behind? not least objectiionable. It is just one of those albums, like Dark Side in which familiarity.. well doesn't quite breed contempt.. it just breeds ... familiarity. It is such a frickin great album.. after years and years of hearing it you tend, when it comes to doing lists like this, to forget just how great it is. It is probably the single greastest prog album ever made.. but after the shock and awe a listener has at first discovering just how magical prog can be when done to perfection. It sort of wears off a bit... not too much obviously.. but to the point where the gateway drug doesn't quite the same effect. The user has moved on to perhaps less perfect but more ..personally powerful drugs of musical choice. I'd rate about... 100 albums more favorite than CTTE, including TFTO but would be hard pressed to call ANY prog album, or any rock album any more perfect. As far as GFTO? pfff.. Give us Tormato any day.. that album had some life in it man. I always thought GFTO was just a flat album, as close to boring as classic Yes ever got.

I actually agree that CTTE is perfect, but I think I listened to it too much back in the day. It doesn't feel as magic as it used to. I think GFTO is terrific, but that's a personal decision and I'm not going to mix it up with you on those grounds alone. My only complaint about it is that Awaken's lyrics are a bit limp. It's a small quibble.

I see a fair amount of consistency over the years, so I'm guessing the 29 people are fairly representative. Maybe the outliers just stayed away.
