I have a very soft spot for Freedom To Glide and their WW1 concept album "Rain", from 2013 - beautiful work by these guys, I only wish the sound on that album was a little more "full"..

I know, but I decided to run with 10 contestants. Hell I could've made an entire tournament with bands that reek of Floyd (maybe I'll do a second one) Edited by Guldbamsen - November 05 2015 at 05:30 |

Missing some good Floyd clones (or heavily Floyd-inspired). Torga Ostera, Negative Zone, Abarax immediately come to mind. I also like some songs by neo-prog bands like Pendragon and Marillion which really give me a strong Floyd vibe.

We even had it registered as an entry here on PA. The track listings were all official and we thought it merely was a matter of time before we got to hear the final product....but no cigar. Didn't stop PAs infamous Nostradamuses from rating it though....which then led to it's deletion. All I know is that it has been on the verge of "releasing" quite a few times by now. I genuinely believed that we got to hear it in 2015....now I'm not so sure. Oh well there's still a few months to go |

Love The Future Kings of England, but the Phideaux choice is actually my favourite track here. A little off topic I know but I wonder if we can expect his new one sometime this century. I'm sure it was just about to be released like about 6 months after Snowtorch!!!!

Hah! I forgot my own poll. Anyway, thank you John. I'm pleased to see you mentioning some of the lesser known artists here....and I also see that you finally went for Violeta de Outono. Great track that one! Now I know they used to do Floyd covers back when they first started out, yet it's only rarely they sound like it on their studio albums. The debut fx sounds far more raw - almost like post-punk and space rock having a baby together. |

I got a Floyd cover album last night : Echoes - Barefoot To The Moon
They cover some of popular songs in a acoustic live performance. Songs like : "Shine on ..." , "High Hopes" , "Comfortably Numb" ,... . I don't know about this band and the only thing that I'm sure is they are from Germany. I listened 3 times to it. Great and Perfect but different. For example they play solo guitar of "High Hopes " with Violin and Sax (I guess). Try it.

Great poll Bamsen!
For me the Siddhartha and Violeta Di Outono tracks are the best but it's hard to pick one over the other. I would pick the Brazilian's album over the Turks album but both songs move me emotionally. I'll vote later after a fresh listen to both.

More than just Floydian, "What Are They Doing in Heaven Today" by Mogwai sounds Roger Waters

Kanoi (kanoi.bandcsmp.com) has released an ep this year with an excellent cover of the Embryo. His last full length studio album has vedy floydian sounds reminding to the saucerful period

Not on the list, but I'd like to mention Rain part 1 by Freedom To Glide.

Well if it makes you feel any better then it's the only tune of Phideaux's that reek of Floyd to these ears. I don't hear it elsewhere. .....and no definitely no Floyd in the vocals either. Edited by Guldbamsen - October 23 2015 at 09:20 |
