Topic: Consistency on band name articles Posted: November 07 2013 at 12:28 |

Band's whose name is in English appear on PA alphabetically, excluding the article, if there is one.
Example given: The Gathering are added as Gathering, The so their name appears under letter "G" (artists also appear as LAST NAME, FIRST NAME e.g. Vai, Steve can be found under "V") Now, there is a mix with band names with articles in other languages: MASCHERA DI CERA, LA but LA ROSSA We need to have some consistency on this - I suggest we either revert everything to "The....." and "La...." or apply the "article comes last" rule to all artists. In my view, option 1 is easier as it allows easier tracking of artists. Any thoughts welcome Edited by aapatsos - November 07 2013 at 12:29 |

If the artists we have beginning with "The" were all put under 'T', with the definite article entered first, the page would probably be unmanageably long. Similarly (to a lesser extent) artists beginning with 'A' - all but a couple of whom ( A CLEAN KITCHEN IS A HAPPY KITCHEN, A HEADFULL OF MONSTERS, are filed with the indefinite article entered last.
The article entered last, as it (mostly) is now, seems to make more sense to me.

Thanks, moved LA ROSSA under R. Obviously, articles should come last. I'll move other bands whose names begin with LA or L' to their proper places. Please report such cases in this thread http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=82726&PN=1, because there are other articles (like I, IL, LE, AZ etc) in different languages.

Moved bands whose names begin with LA or L', but I don't know would this be right to these ones (so I've left them under L):

^ Already moved to G. No need to be an expert to know that LE is an article in French.

Formal logic can't help in these cases:
LES is usually an article, but these bands are from non-French speaking countries, so I'd rather leave them under L.

And please don't forget Het Pandorra Ensemble, for 'het' is an article in Dutch.

^ Thanks, moved under P.
Sooner or later with the help of PA members from different countries I'll become a polyglot.

Actually, fhey do speak French in Switzerland. It''s one of the official languages (besides German, Romansh and Italian). And, BTW, we don't have this problem in Polish (or any Slavic language, I think) fortunately! |

^ Bartek, I still doubt LES HALMAS should be moved to H.
I looked at track lists of their albums - there are no French titles at all.

According to google, Les Halmas translates to The Feat of All Saints, essentially All Saints Day I would gather. I imagine all the band members in the band speak French and thus les functions as an article. Whether their songs are in French or not, that is the name of their band and it should be filed under H.
