female newbie here!

As far as the massage skills go...  there was a woman who had a chronic neck injury, herniated discs.  She couldn't afford surgery for it.  She also couldn't sleep without a double-dose of Vicodin.  I massaged her neck for 30 minutes, and she fell asleep in my arms, slept peacefully for 8 hours, and woke up feeling better than she had in years...  WITHOUT the painkillers.

My abilities at sensing what exactly needs to be done to make someone feel absolutely incredible can be inferred in many ways from that.

I think the only reason I work is to fund my CD habit ... I get a bit secretive about it but at least here I can 'fess up and purge my guilt

You might want to check them out. But they're not prog. Mostly blues oriented but very good. Just do a search on Phil Emmanuel.

Alusa Fallax - Intorno alla mia Cattiva Educazione

You need to get this asap! Based on the Italian groups you have mentioned i can give you a 100% guarantee that you will love this album. This album is kinda like a mix of the QVL debut and the Locanda delle Fate album. Wonderful and one of my favourites!

Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra

An absolute masterpiece! The overall sound of this album is a little heavier than the likes of Banco, Le Orme and PFM but the album alternates in mellow and heavier sections (especially in the title suite) that are simply breathtaking. The mellow sections are the most beautiful you'll hear in prog. This band has a superb drummer Giancarlo Golzi who plays like he is in acids and in many ways he is the driving wheel in the band. This album didn't hit me instantly for some reason but it became my favourite 70's album.

Maxophone - s/t

An excellent album! I don't like this album as much as the aforementioned albums but it doesn't mean that this isn't good. You would probably like this album because you like italian prog in general.

Biglietto per L'inferno - s/t

This is one of my absolute faves! Again, this is little heavier like Museo Rosenbach. I recommend you to start with Museo Rosenbach and if you like it get this one next.

Semiramis - Dedicato a Frazz

This album is fantastic and quite original as well. This group is led by a fantastic guitar player Michele Zarrillo whose playing is fiery and played in hard rock way. A must!

Campo di Marte - s/t

Fantastic and underrated album.

Apoteosi - s/t

Fantastic and based on your tastes you would probably like this.

Metamorfosi - Inferno

Fantastic and for some reason overlooked by some.

Il Rovescio della Medaglia - Contaminazione

Fantastic and in my opinion the best interpretion of classical music. if you like classical music this is a must!


Some other similar Italian groups worth checking: Alphataurus (1st), Balletto di Bronzo (Ys), Latte e Miele, J.E.T, Osanna (Palepoli), Il Volo, Pierrot Lunaire (1st), Raccomandata Ricevuta Ritorno (a little jazzy), New Trolls (especially Concerto Grosso per 1)

Some other great groups but might not appeal to everyone (avant-garde, jazz fusion etc.): Area, Arti E Mestieri, Pierrot Lunaire (2nd), Picchio dal Pozzo, Pholas Dactylus

geezer, all vocals are in italian except for RIP  Your suggestions are good because these albums have bee on my want list for a while  ... so nah worries, as they say here. I shall definitely be getting them soon. And no, I don't know much new Italian stuff.  In the light of my tastes so far could you recommend something? Don't worry, I won't hold you responsible for the fact that I'll be living on bread and water (whilst listening to great music ) for the rest of my days !!!!!

Geezer ....that's a pretty comprehensive list ...it appears that you rather like Italian Prog

Thanks for the great recommendations - I have listened to the GG samples and from the basis of these, I think I like will like them a lot. I have also listened to the 2 UK samples here and am very impressed as I love Wetton's voice and have always admired Bruford's work. Have you heard the new album with him & Downes called ICON? Its really rather good ... much less cheesy than the Asia output   ... but which I kinda like too  ... even though they aren't highly regarded here much it seems. I can understand why ... but maybe sometimes we need to have cheese with our bread !
