Yes, thanks, Dean. You are true - relation between your signature and ancient sculptures is so evident, that David (Guldbamsen) could not write about anything else. Edited by progresssaurus - September 17 2013 at 07:01 |

You either follow the flow of conversation in the posts or you do not, there is no uncertainty or ambiguity involved.

I believe you, that you are very sure. I am not sure. But I am true. Maybe.
I like your signature, because it looks better then some generally overrated ancient Greek sculptures. |

I'm very sure. Chris complimented Jim on the beautiful women in his sig, which Jim acknowledged with a ![]() (and yes the original is by Peter Driben, I used it as clip-art and just moved her arm a little to the right so it fitted on the Prog Archives logo better, I have never claimed to be the artist of that cartoon image)

He was referring to Jim (Finnforest), but about beautiful girl in your sig mentioned indirectly by Chris S. But I am not sure

He was referring to Jim (Finnforest), not me (who isn't called Jim and never will be). And specifically, Jim's avatar: ![]() (just don't sneeze on her oatmeal)

Is e.g. Relayer accepted by all that crowd outside of Progressive Rock audience as DSOTM aswell? Or e.g. The Power And The Glory? or Pawn Hearts, Trespass, Lark's Tongues In Aspic and so on? Of course not! And there must be some reason for that. IMO, DSOTM is pseudo-psych album who allowed a wide audience to mock venture in "psych" ("soul") while turn out their lights and smoking a pot. And as I said above, it was ok. But, if we leave that social and historical component of DSOTM' success story aside, there is nobody who can convince me that DSOTM is not highly overrated album in comparision with above examples.

Yes ... Peter Driben is criminally underrated artist
I like their 3rd album. It was one from first my LPs and I have nostalgic relation to it.

First off you understand the meaning of subjective right? Secondly there was no progressive rock tag as such in the 70's and yes people who bought Fleetwood Mac Rumours or Bruce Springsteen's Born to run or even Talking Heads 77 probably owned DSOTM as well more so than NC which became a bigger seller long after it's initial release. And being around in that ' current' decade gives me the right to say that it had nothing to do with mainstream. Simply put many record labels gave the bands freedom to express themselves. I risk being shot at here but my guess is that you were born late 80's or even the 90's? And if you did not experience the 70's when it happened, no pigeonholing or genre tagging will help and yes it may well be easier to glibly say both albums are overrated. Now if you come back to me and say you were born in the 60's I want proof of D.O.B and I'll eat my left shoe

There always will be underrated and overrated albums. What's so special with DSOTM? that album is, let's say, a prog mainstream. I recall that the guys and gals, who weren't lovers of Progressive Rock at all, were owned a copy; FM radio DJs were playing DSOTM so much at late in the evening, etc. After decades, that album is still to be a representative of Prog for the masses and that's ok, there ought to be an album like DSOTM; it's historical necessity. But, it's also overrated in comparision with the great prog albums who are accepted by prog audience only.
On other side, e.g. Family's Family Entertainment the album is shamefuly underrated even in prog circles. Edited by Svetonio - September 16 2013 at 11:48 |

Well you can't go wrong with either of their first 3 albums imo. They are however quite, let's just say unique sounding ![]() The selftitled: ![]() Sing Brother Sing: ![]() Wasa Wasa: ![]() I started out with Sing Brother Sing, which absolutely blew me away. Then again, I'm also very much into the psychedelic bluesy side of Captain Beefheart. Here's the "intro" tune to the album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3RCog3gVPw
