I don't know which album is more boring... Floyd's, I think.

I recommend to ordain new forum rule, that phrase "album is overrated" is allowed only for rating with more than five stars. If someone personally rates album less than actual rating and actual rating is lesser than five star, is phrase "album is overrated" forbiden. He can to use phrase "album is underrated by me".

Chris S, believe it or not, I never was DSOTM and Nursery Cryme lover. Just for info, my fav Floyd's album is Meddle, my fav album by Genesis is Trespass.

And yes, a number of albums what I find at amazing Bandcamp are more interresting to me than both of DSOTM and NC. For example, this Avant-prog album from 2010, what I suggested not long time ago:

So calling something underrated is fine, because then someone is supporting that work. But because overrated is negative in tone it ceases to be a legitimate opinion?

Underrated is also quite a superfluous and meaningless word, at least when it's applied to music.
I think most folks have a higher tolerance of it though, because it doesn't bash other music, when it's used.

^ Exactly. I have no problem with either term though. It's all just opinions.

Exactly, although some peeps have a very peculiar way of expressing these.
It is quite possible to call an album overrated without stepping on people's toes. But I guess that is the main driving force behind some folks. Dr Prog would be a fine example of this.

dr prog goes about things in a negative way generally, but I do believe those are actually his opinions. Hey, I disagree with most of what he comes out with on the forum, like many would, but as long as he's not insulting anyone personally, I wouldn't worry about it. The difference between say, Walter and dr prog (who dr prog reminds me of, slightly) is Walter went a bit over the line and started actually being abrasive towards other forum members' tastes in music. I mean, he was funny, but you shouldn't do that sh*t.

What was I going on about again????

LOL yeah but that definitive version of The Musical Box was actually released at Genesis Live the album.

p.s. btw, only the greatest bands can make it better on the stage.

I don't think there's right or wrong in music, just different tastes and opinions.

BTW, who's that in your avatar? First I thought it was that quy from the A=MH2 cover (Chris Hutchison?), but it's Edgar Broughton, right?

I'm with you on that, and it was kinda my point with the post. Infusing terms like 'right' and 'wrong' into music is ludicrous. I was just being overtly perfidiousSmile

And yes, you're quiet right, it's Edgar Broughton. The British Captain BeefheartBig smile

Cool

I've heard about him, and his band, but never checked them out. What would you say would be a good starting point for EBB?
