@GoldenGod2112: Truer words have never been spoken. Karn Evil 9 1st imp (parts 1&2) has no equal, anywhere on Planet Earth. I love bands like ELP, cause they can be enjoyed on an album, from start to finish. My favorites are everything from ELP to Works Vol. I. If I had to single out 5 favs...: 1. Karn Evil 9 1st impression both parts 2. Tarkus 3. Pirates (its not a crime to play with an orchestra.) 4. The Endless Enigma (whole thing incl. fugue) 5. Trilogy

Ya, o ne of the many reasons I love CD's. I can hear the album as a whole rather than 2 20 minute parts

Oh god, such a great, great band! My favourites would have to be (In no particular order)...
Karn Evil 9 Take a Pebble Trilogy From the Beginning The Barbarian
To name but a few, but I could just go on for ages, what a fantastic, fantastic band, they always got way to much shtick.

Just been listening to the live 'straight from boards' version of KE9 (complete with its 'sh*t over every living drummer' drum solo). How could you ever top this?! ELP couldn't and didn't although Pirates was a nice try.

1. Karn Evil 9 (seems to be up there on everyone's list)
2. Take a Pebble
3. Piano Concerto No. 1 from Work vol. I (I'm a sucker for classical!)
4. Pirates (it's so chessy, it works IMO)
5. Tarkus

"Pirates" couldn't stick to the bottom of "KE9"'s shoe.
Btw, nobody else has "Touch and Go" on their list? That's a great song!

Post 1973 there aren't many great ELP tracks but Pirates is a very nice peice of symphonic prog nevertheless. It breezes along although there is lack of a climactic type ending to give it that extra bit of class. I like Touch and Go although my favourite tracks from ELPowell are Learning To Fly and Mars. (or did you mean the Manticore box set version with Palmer instead of Powell?)

1. Karn Evil 9 (Impression 3 being my favorite part) 2. Take a Pebble 3. Toccata 4. Tarkus 5. Trilogy
The first three are the only ones I'm sure about, I just picked the other two to have a complete list.

Hey, let's keep this great thread goin'!
The Endless Enigma
Tocatta
Iconoclast/Battlefield from the Tarkus Suite
The Only Way from Tarkus
but let that not detract from any of their first four studio albums. After 42 years I still can't tire of 'em. Right now I'm listening to their debut for maybe the 999th time, the piano is among the very best there is and, of course, Tank has the best drum solo of all time (Sorry Mr. Cobham).
