In this case heavy is in the ear of the beholder. I think Genesis has their moments of heaviness and they happened before KC pretty much

Nope, because Schizoid was even earlier than Nursery Cryme, to say nothing of Relayer.   In 1969, there was nothing as heavy as 21st century Schizoid Man and once again in 73-74, with Fracture and Red, KC made some of the heaviest rock music up to that point.

Black Sabbath was heavier

Dude, the Black Sabbath released only after Court of the Crimson King.   You can make a pedantic objection if you like but the point stands that 21st century Schizoid Man was the heaviest rock music up to that point when it came out.  Yes and Genesis weren't even close.

To me there is nothing heavy about Schizoid Man except the power chords overall it really is not heavy but I can see what you are talking about

It's not heavy anymore circa 2013 but at that time, it was.   What was the heaviest music of that time?  Maybe some Doors or the first LZ.  It was heavier than any of those. By that token, Musical Box is not heavy as of today either, nor is Knife.

So what if it is?  The TONE doesn't have much heaviness.  Ditto, Musical Box.   Such music is rather too melodic for me to associate it with heavy metal.   Compare Knife to what Deep Purple were doing on In Rock or even the Warpigs riff, that is a lot heavier already.   By 1971, there's no question that Sabbath was a lot heavier with tracks like Into the Void.

I agree but we are talking about KC and Genesis here not Deep Purple or Black Sabbath, haven't heard of sarcasm, eh

I have already answered that question once, twice and this is the last time.   Try getting that into your head or if you have another of your brain farts, go see the doc first.  And try also to avoid your pseudo-condescension because it is hilarious; yes - shock and horror - we have heard all these albums that you go on and on.   I had said Red is heavier than Yes or Genesis so comparing Musical Box to anything KC had released up to that point is irrelevant here.   I don't think you have any convincing Yes or Genesis exhibits to demonstrate that they could be heavier than Red, so you deliberately twisted the argument just to score a point.   For the last time, stop arguing and learn to discuss instead.

I'm not arguing I'm discussing this with you. I don't think that that is irrelevant though.

You said once that you laughed at my comment and later that you wanted to 'show' that I am wrong.  That is exactly what arguing is all about.   You are more interested in showing your beliefs about music are right and we are wrong.   You are not interested in a mutual exchange, wonder when you'll ever be.   If all you are interested in is proving us wrong, please leave alone for we have better things to do.

Still hating on KC and trying to justify you condescension as 'discussion'? Guess you never did turn over that new leaf did you?

Trying to argue Genesis & Yes as heavier than Crimson is bizarre. I love the Knife & Hogweed but those are outliers compared to KC's body of work.

Your attempt to twist my statement to something I didn't say just so you could somehow 'disprove' that KC are heavier is what, exactly?   You have a hard time accepting positive statements of any sort about KC.   And this is not for you to agree or deny, this is my observation.

Unlike ProgMetaller I do like most of the King Crimson discography, but I give a clear edge to Genesis since I'm a Hackett fan afterall. I don't think ProgMetaller is as loopy here as you all seem to think. The fact is quite true, for instance, Iron Maiden have repeatedly acknowledged Steve Hackett as a major influence on them. I don't think King Crimson is really all that "heavier" in general, although I think KC makes the memory of their loud moments reverberate longer, so it seems more pervasive than it is. They have a lot of jazzy sections which are not very heavy at all, but seem heavy because they maintained some prior tension. Genesis is better at dynamic contrasts, but they dial the tension down a lot more once the heavy portion is completed. Also, "heaviness" can vary quite a bit with a given performance or recording mix. We know Hackett constantly lost out in the mix. I've been watching a live version of Lark's Tongues Pt. 1 on DVD. Great stuff, but it's nowhere near as heavy as the studio version (of course it's really the improvisation that makes it special).
