Recommend some Prog Metal (I don't know)

No I don't dig Protest at all, I also don't consider them death metal in the slightest. during my tech death heyday my main bands were Necrophagist, Psycroptic, The Faceless, Gorod, things like that. I got out of it rather quickly though, that was before i really delved into true death metal and black metal and once I was hooked on the old school bands most of the flashy tech stuff lost its' appeal to me. Nowadays when I think of tech death I like it's either on the old school side like Atheist or on the total other extreme such as Gorguts' Obscura. The more mainstream tech stuff lost its' appeal to me, too much focus on technicality and playing something really impressive and showy rather than writing a good song.

also worth noting that something that helped me bridge between modern tech death and traditional death metal was death metal from around the mid-90's area, I see it as the between period where it still have the power and essence of true death metal but was branching out into more technical areas. Cryptopsy's None So Vile is my favorite death metal record ever and I hold it as one of the best, perfect blend of death metal spirit, a new sense of technical playing and experimentation, including some elements of jazz and funk in the guitar and bass, respectively

haha well considering you said Cynic is the heaviest you get I wouldn't expect you to enjoy it at all. There's a certain precision and control to the chaos that you don't notice from the first listen though, it's really quite good. Like the filthiest Morbid Angel riffs mixed with really dark atmospheric black metal and just twisted into something beyond imagination. They put on a hell of a live show too.

I'm going to echo the recommendation of Between the Buried and Me.  Because they're so adventurous, you might not care for one album but love the next.  The one that really does it for me is The Great Misdirect, which is the first album I've heard in decades that reminded me of listening to Dark Side of the Moon from beginning to end.  I'm not comparing the musical styles of BtBaM and Floyd; I'm saying that listening to that album has a similar effect.  I just get immersed.  Lost.  Soaked in.

I know Swano has a thousand projects but I didn't know about Karaboudjan, now you got me totally curious!!

Definitely will check it out. And I'm sure repeated listenings to P.T.M will get you hooked my friend. Thanks!
