If it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it is wrong if it does to somebody else.   This piece easily crushes any Genesis or Yes track for sheer heaviness:

Or this, for that matter:

By the way, I love Genesis and Yes too but I doubt you are going to believe me the moment I say something positive about KC.  Seems your universe is a pretty binary one.

This piece easily crushes any Genesis or Yes track for sheer heaviness:

I'm not starting again but have you ever heard of The Musical Box and Gates of Delirium and to say that is just ludicrous. Genesis had The Musical Box and Giant Hogweed in terms of sheer heaviness prior to any of that from King Crimson

This piece easily crushes any Genesis or Yes track for sheer heaviness:

So this is what I have to say about your comment

The Musical Box and Giant Hogweed aren't that heavy honestly. Schizoid Man and Epitaph are much heavier in my opinion, and are from their '69 debut.

No I have not. I actually don't listen to any progressive music whatsoever and simply come on here to pretend I do.

Is there really a need to ask this? Obviously we have heard the song, otherwise we wouldn't be discussing it as if we have. Fact of the matter is I simply don't hear anything particularly heavy in that song.

Schizoid probably but Epitaph?????

I just find it really intense, maybe not heavier in the sense of proto-metal, but the mellotron and piano are so dramatic.

Understandable, but it's not the least bit heavy in the proto-metal sense

A lot of people think the mid section is too long. Do yourself a favor - listen from 7 minutes onward.

To me it sounds as if they lifted it from LizardUnhappy, that bass sounds familiar

I'm not sure how you can say Genesis did anything heavier than that objectively.

I realize you aren't a huge KC fan, but regardless of your likening towards Genesis - let's be honest here.

I never thought of Hackett's lead playing as metal-related. It's very melodic and classical influenced with a big tone but I don't see how that's metal. I see more relation to metal in say Fripp's lead work on 21st Century Schizoid Man, what with all the experimentation with wild noises and atonal melodies, holds a lot more similarities to future death and thrash metal soloing. Hackett's soloing has more similarities with Avenged Sevenfold than death metal :P

Just to let you know Maiden and Metallica solos sound more fluid than death metal and that solo from Fripp (great solo by the way)
