I'd say Trick of the Tail. It's got some nice accessible tunes like Ripples, and the girls are more likely to recognize and like Phil Collins. Although as a young person, I don't think I'd risk playing prog to a likely partner.

All I gotta say is: 'Don't Answer Me' - Alan Parsons Project. With that painful adult contemporary jazz sax solo and the maudlin, 1980's cynical romantic love lyrics, you can't go wrong here, m'boys.

Well, I'd at least want a girl who had a considerable overlap in taste with me

My ex used to really respond to the sadder Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree stuff like `Buying New Soul', `Don't Hate Me', etc, but I remember listening to their instrumental improv P.Tree album `Metanoia' and her saying `You have to stop playing this, it's so boring....it's like...nothing music'
At this point I was like `You know, I don't think this is working anymore....' lol!
Only kidding!
But seriously, this list is so strange, I couldn't imagine really ANY of these albums `impressing the ladies' much. God, one listen to Peter Hammill's screeching theatrical tormented rants and they'd run a mile!!

I think if i wanted to get rid of a woman i'd put Peter Hammill on but to seduce her with it ? Are you kidding !
I knew one very attractive girl who loved Zappa but i think overall i'd go with the majority and pick Caravan.

My wife loves Jethro Tull, so TAAB from the list. But for a prog album on a date? The Moody Blues' Days of Future Passed has always been a splendid choice.

Don't forget that Peter Hammill had a compilation LP called "Love Songs". I don't know who he thinks is going to sit on that awful couch though.

A Trick of the Tail seems to have that melodic quallty that most of the ladies I have known go for. At least the missus prefers the more melodic stuff (she dislikes King Crimson and can't stand The Residents). For myself, though, there are some Vangelis albums that have worked really well date-wise, such as Antarctica and Themes. Loosing one's virginity to Thick as a Brick, though, is classic.

Never saw the Crims as a non-melodic outfit.

I wouldn't advise any of those during a date if you want it to last.
I'm just picturing the girl trying to get to first base but the guy is going " Check out that Hammond babe..."

Out of the list I would most likely play Caravan on a date.
But i find this thread's heternormative bias offensive. :P

You could apply it to lesbians - you could have a lesbian interested in prog who is trying to date other women who're interested in prog.
As for homosexual men - they don't exist, anyway.

Haha I wondered if someone would go with lesbian angle, which defeats my attempt at humour. Good job.
I guess I do not exist.
