Except for the first song, I always found this to be an overrated Genesis album WinkTongue
I liked that Genesis better when they started sounding less like Genesis in Fugazi and beyond... until they lost their own Gabriel.

I know people compare the Fish years Marillion with Genesis a lot, but I think the similarities are not that strong!! Nice o e DEAN.

You know this is actually an easy one for me just because I have so much love for what it's done for the Neo prog genre. Basically started the Neo wave. Anyway, A TRICK OF THE TAIL. Hands down.

My fave cd's would be "Trespass" and "And then there were three."

Trespass:

The Trespass album to me is the picture of a band that is still searching for it's voice, still rough in the mix yet contains a very organic sound and vision. At times this albums sounds very close to VDGG and that's not strange since they were both label mates and toured together..

And then there were three:

It took me years to finally acknowledge Collins-era Genesis. What most people don't realize is that his singing has graced almost all of the Genesis albums he he has played on.I was constantly dissing all the post Gabriel and Hackett albums till one day a friend made a copy of Wind and Wuthering. After that I was hooked.Ane then there were three still has the prog compositions and very Hackett-esque guitar courtesy of Mike R.A very upbeat album.

Trouser Press years back made the brilliant observation that Genesis didn't lose its edge after Gabriel left but after Hackett left.Even though I love Duke I think it's pretty fair to say that Trouser Press in my op' was close to the mark in their observation.

I should really give Calling all Stations another try.  I barely gave it a chance. Bought it when it came out and tossed it away on the same day.   I was actually expecting Phil to be on it LOL

Somehow I missed the memo.

Their best? I'd say Foxtrot, followed by SEBTP, A Trick of the Tail, and And Then There Were Three, for me a masterpiece that needs to be seen under a different light. The cult of Peter Gabriel has cast a bad spell over gems that deserve better.

There  is no Genesis album I think is bad.Even  Calling All Stations has grown on me. It could have been so much more though. It's kinda lacklustre

Both amazing and beautiful records.
Also I think the ebst thing about W&W was the album art. It's not the worst album ever, but I'd say Genesis released better stuff before and after that album (Calling all Stations doesn't really counts).
I prefer Duke much more than W&W, for example..

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

Foxtrot comes close, but nothing beats the lamb. Anything without Gabriel is miles away from anything with Gabriel, and yes that DOES include the debut.

Approve [with great, freaking great pride] Approve I used to hate it; now I just love it. LOL

1973 - Selling England by the Pound - 14
1974 - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - 9
1976 - A Trick of the Tail - 11
1977 - Wind and Wuthering - 8
1980 - Duke - 5
1981 - Abacab - 1
1983 - Genesis - 3
1986 - Invisible Touch - 1
