Doesn't mean Coldplay didn't plagiarize him...and doesn't mean Satriani's songs aren't catchy either, you just never hear them on the radio.
And it doesn't mean they did plagiarise him either - nor any of the other people who've used the same chord progression, it's not that unique. The case was dismissed - Satriani couldn't prove they did, Coldplay couldn't prove they didn't. I'm ambivalent to the whole affair since I'm not that interested in either of them, but objectively there isn't enough evidence to make a judgement, especially on an Internet forum, from what I've read people (pre)judged with their hearts and their personal preference for one of the two artists involved.

Yep, that was it. It was in the papers for weeks. He seems like such a nice guy, and then he goes and does something like that. Paper serveyerights all over the floor too! He said it wasn't them but they came up with some video footage. Even Joey Barton was shocked and made an appearance on 'Newsnight' with Paxo to talk about it.
Don't know if he ever appologised or not? But I think that was the reason I made that illogical post about Coldplay'

No, I really didn't want to say anything because I don't want to start an argument, but this is what I'm talking about:

That one is called "Songs I Didn't Write" by the Creaky Boards, a Brooklyn-based syrupy indie-pop outfit. I know about them because the band's leader, Andrew Hoepfner, is actually my pastor's nephew!

Like I originally said - I don't even care if it is plagiarism any more. I'm not as much of a fan of Joe Satriani as I used to be (I think I outgrew him), and yes, it's possible that's such a common chord progression that 3 bands/individuals came up with the same melody. But what bothers me is: 1) how Coldplay handled the situation, and 2) the song won an award.

Someone accused them of plagiarism while they're busy promoting their latest album so they defend themselves. The bare-faced bloody temerity of it!!!! How dare they be so defensive when such a "respected" musician takes them to court over something they believed they wrote! Man, how do they sleep at night?

Newsflash - they sucked before that happened. Look, even YOU have to admit that it's pretty stupid that a band that is NOT metal won the BEST METAL award? But I knew that was probably going to be the outcome as soon as I saw who else was nominated, because all you have to do is think about $ and who has the most of it, and that's who wins. Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that they decided to have a Prog category in the grammys. You know what would happen? 3 legitimate prog acts would get nominated...and Lada Gaga would get nominated, and she'd win.
I think they should rename the Grammys and call them the Moneys. And then they can rename the awards like so: "This year I won 3 Moneys: 1 for having the most money while playing something that resembled rock, 1 for having the most money while shooting a video, and 1 for having the most money and dancing around while other people played something that resembled music."
