OMG. I only heard that song for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and now it runs through my head quite often. My daughter seems to have been reeled in by it too - I wouldn't be surprised if it were laced with subliminal messages designed to hypnotize children.
But the biggest disgrace? Probably William Hung. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but c'mon.

Seriously. Want to shoot them and murder them. Those are 2 different things.
Also, I would say Phil Collins after Genesis because Genesis rocked so hard and... after Genesis... he... did... things.

Also Rebecca black is not a disgrace because she is just a money-made pop princess deal between her mother and a producer. Nothing new there. Those pop-star automatic dealios really don't count as music. It's just an image really. That girl doesn't know any better so you can't REALLY hold it against her.

We have a reality star here in Denmark called Amalie, who just by being famous got a record deal. I'm actually fine with that, if the girl can sing. She can't though... She is baaaad!
And when you think of just how many skilled musicians there are out there, and then this little Paris Hilton wannabe with no talent whatsoever comes along and gets a freebie all on account of looking good in a bikini and saying stuff like: 'Spaghetti is outdoors food'

Yes.
They were inculcated with that ideology, and expected to do that stuff for the white nationalists by relatives, but apparently as they got older (watched a documentary on them) they didn't like what they had done/ been asked to do. They did publicly renounce their "previous politics". I don't hold it against the girls themselves.

This may all be true (I doubt it) but to me they are just MOR rock/pop not fish nor fowl not one nor t'other. Hence, the enemy. Yeah, it was in all the tabloids - apparently, or so I'm lead to believe by the voices in my head, apparently, Chris Martin and some blond actress who was inthat wassname... film, had eaten a spicy bean-burger meal deal in McDonald's and neglected to clear the table after themselves - yup - allegedly it was a right mess - half-eaten fries all over the place, spilt diet cola mixed in with tomato ketchup and BBQ sauce smeared over the table and everything - they didn't even take their tray back. ^ No Dean, that's actually not what I was talking about, though I had heard that Chris Martin was quite full of himself and quite a douche before. But that's more like salt on a wound for me.
No, I really didn't want to say anything because I don't want to start an argument, but this is what I'm talking about:
Now, we can have a big argument about whether Colplay did actually plagiarize that song, and as I understand it, there's a third song that is quite similar to both so then it becomes an argument of "well, did they BOTH plagiarize?" But the real thing that bothers me...actually 2 things: 1) Joe Satriani did try to sue Coldplay, and it was months of his lawyer trying to serve them with papers, while they played this game of running and hiding while having their security play keep away. They obviously thought Satriani would run out of money and give up eventually, and to me that's almost as good as an admission of guilt. Eventually (what I heard) they threw some money at him and he did give up. But what really, REALLY bothers me about the whole thing is: 2) Viva La Vida won a frickin' grammy! I've ALWAYS thought the grammys have become a joke, but if a song that is involved in a plagiarism lawsuit wins one? And to top this all off - they play the dang thing 12 times a day...STILL! Salt on the wound for me - I just can't hear them any more without getting a bad taste in my mouth. And I actually did used to like them.

And it doesn't mean they did plagiarise him either - nor any of the other people who've used the same chord progression, it's not that unique. The case was dismissed - Satriani couldn't prove they did, Coldplay couldn't prove they didn't. I'm ambivalent to the whole affair since I'm not that interested in either of them, but objectively there isn't enough evidence to make a judgement, especially on an Internet forum, from what I've read people (pre)judged with their hearts and their personal preference for one of the two artists involved.

Oh, that's what you're talking about. I knew about that, but I hadn't heard of the Joe Satriani song, only the "third song" you mentioned. That one is called "Songs I Didn't Write" by the Creaky Boards, a Brooklyn-based syrupy indie-pop outfit. I know about them because the band's leader, Andrew Hoepfner, is actually my pastor's nephew!
This is the song in question:
I personally don't hear any plaigiarism, that's a pretty standard chord progression that anyone could have come up with.

But the real thing that bothers me...actually 2 things:1) Joe Satriani did try to sue Coldplay, and it was months of his lawyer trying to serve them with papers, while they played this game of running and hiding while having their security play keep away. They obviously thought Satriani would run out of money and give up eventually, and to me that's almost as good as an admission of guilt. Eventually (what I heard) they threw some money at him and he did give up. But what really, REALLY bothers me about the whole thing is:2) Viva La Vida won a frickin' grammy!
Like I originally said - I don't even care if it is plagiarism any more. I'm not as much of a fan of Joe Satriani as I used to be (I think I outgrew him), and yes, it's possible that's such a common chord progression that 3 bands/individuals came up with the same melody. But what bothers me is: 1) how Coldplay handled the situation, and 2) the song won an award.

Someone accused them of plagiarism while they're busy promoting their latest album so they defend themselves. The bare-faced bloody temerity of it!!!! How dare they be so defensive when such a "respected" musician takes them to court over something they believed they wrote! Man, how do they sleep at night?
On piles of cash I shouldn't wonder.
...or perhaps it was just EMI suits vs. Sony suits.

Newsflash - they sucked before that happened. Look, even YOU have to admit that it's pretty stupid that a band that is NOT metal won the BEST METAL award? But I knew that was probably going to be the outcome as soon as I saw who else was nominated, because all you have to do is think about $ and who has the most of it, and that's who wins. Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that they decided to have a Prog category in the grammys. You know what would happen? 3 legitimate prog acts would get nominated...and Lada Gaga would get nominated, and she'd win.

I think they should rename the Grammys and call them the Moneys. And then they can rename the awards like so: "This year I won 3 Moneys: 1 for having the most money while playing something that resembled rock, 1 for having the most money while shooting a video, and 1 for having the most money and dancing around while other people played something that resembled music."

We remember when a Prog band won the Best Metal Grammy
nothing changes.

and the award is for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance - not Best Metal. You could argue that Food Fighterers are not Hard Rock but most people seem comfortable calling them that.

Yeah, sure - the whole song all the drummer does is "dum-pa-dum-pa-dum-pa" and an occasional (for dramatic effect) "padapadapada-pah!" Clearly way better....

What got me was when a Brian Wilson instrumental Mrs. O'Leary's Cow beat out Neil Peart's live drum solo for best instrumental. Although, I do think that the Brian Wilson instrumental would probably be quite popular amongst the avantsters on the site.

Which song from the album was it? Rope is really good, and Bridge Burning is decent, but neither are on the same level as On the Backs of Angels, imo.
At least the Grammy's have featured Rush nominations about five times now (for best instrumental). They've never won, but you can't argue too much when they're up against Cliffs of Dover and stuff like that.

Since when was drumming complexity the sole measure of a group's worth? I don't like either the Foo Fighters or Dream Theater, really.
Coverkill. Overkill's covers album Coverkill is the worst album I've ever tried to listen to on purpose. Kiss' Music from The Elder comes relatively close.
